Got this same drive for the same price a little over a month ago.

It's pretty fast, it's quiet and it's not a Seagate, which means that it's probably the best deal out there on a high-capacity external drive.

Yeah, I haven't had any issues with the pair I use at work, nice little backup drives. I'm glad that prices on large drives are finally getting reasonable again!

I read the USB enclosure does some wacky formatting to the drive so beware about loading it up with data and then pulling it out to use as an internal.

Does the drive have its own warranty if you pull it out of the enclosure like the Seagate does?

Pulled the drive out and looked it up on the hgst.com quick warranty check. It shows about 8 months left. However they have a note below saying "While the warranty Quick Check may show this hard drive has a valid warranty, NOT ALL WARRANTIES ARE TRANSFERABLE, therefore this Quick Check is not a guarantee of warranty entitlement."

So not 100% sure until someone successfully creates and RMA and returns one.

I hate the sleep mode on this thing, on Windows 8. It takes like 30s for it to come back to do anything with it. Otherwise, it has been this price for a while. I rather get the Seagate backups if ever they come back on sale on Amazon again.

It appears to use 3 MBR RAW partitions instead of a single GTP one. Then the controller somehow combines them and presents it as a single drive. Piriform's Recuva wouldn't touch the bare drive. Very unfriendly to any recovery tools.

So like a quasi-RAID 0 stripe of MBR partitions?

I want it but I dont need it.

USB 3 is still too slow for games and I already have a couple of 3TB for bulk storage.

Damn......

I do too but it's still to high for me. Sams had the 4TB Seagate USB 3 model last weekend (open house weekend for everyone) for $89.99 plus tax. My Sam's had them but I waited too long! :'(

After seeing that for $89.99 plus tax, the bar has been set for a lower price so I'll hold off....oh, and the fact that I would love to have a 2TB or larger portable drive that didn't need a separate power supply hookup.

That deal was a YMMV. Sams here don't even carry them.

Update: Departed FedEx location

Update: At U.S. Postal Service facility

Update: Arrived at local Post Office - Allow one to two additional days for delivery

Fedex Smartpost (or UPS Surepost), the slowest shipping available at newegg (usually free).

I know this. The one in Nicholasville didn't carry them the but one on New Circle did and had them in stock. I talked myself out of them and now wish that I didn't.

The deal was actually pretty available around the country though if you read through the SlickDeals thread. Not to mention, it was open house weekend at Sams and anyone could get a one day pass with no extra payment penalty for purchases that weekend.

I order from them nearly weekly, never had them do that...it's weird! Fedex guy shows up if it's Fedex, UPS guy shows up if it's UPS :hmm:
