There isn't much available in the market yet.

The 6600 AGP is a huge premium over the 6200 AGP. But Zipzoomfly has a 256MB 6200 Chaintech for $125 (they have no 128MB). Newegg has a Leadtek 6200 128MB for $124 shipped.

Normally I prefer Leadtek over Chaintech, but in this case I don't know. I don't think 8 pipeline (unlocked that is) would be fast enough for me to get any advantage. But its tough to pass up the Chaintech. Any ideas?

Check the speed of the RAM as well as quantity.
Don't know if it applies to 6200's, but in the past, 256MB cards have occasionally had slower RAM than 128MB cards AFAIK.

The 6200 is a low end card, and therefore it will not have the power to put the 256mb to good use. So, unless you get a good deal for 256mb, stick with the 128 mb version. Also, make sure you don't get the Turbocache version, those are crap.

6200 while it can fully address 256mb it cannot do it efficiently. Additionally at that price point you should not be looking for the speed. Additionally to achieve the 256mb manf, to cut costs, generally use lower rated memory (2.8 compared to 2.2). Just get the 6200 Regular then unlock all the good stuff and turn it into a 6600.

At stock settings the 9600XT would win. However the 6200 is an EXCELLENT overclocking and with a soft mod can be turned into a 6600 which is superior to the 9600XT. OCing farther you can come close to 6600GT levels.

A 6600gt is only $80 more.

A 6600gt makes the 9600xt look so amature (I've used both).

Agreed, save up a bit more cash and get a 6600GT. While the 6600GT is more expensive than the 6200, IMO it is a better value.

If you have to go for the 6200, get the 256mb version....it will do better in the long run...and then softmod it and OC it, and you will see a huge performance boost (up to 6600GT scores on 3dmark05)

Dont get the 256mb version. It uses slower memory which, theoretically, willhit its max oc much sooner. Additionally with a GPU like that (ie non Bleeding edge) what are you going to be doing that requires 256mb. Right now HL2, DIII, and Far Cry are the graphics intensive games, do you really think you are going to run that on max detail with AA and AF?

That's what I'm saying. Any game that would require 256 mb would run like a slideshow on a 6200.
