just a reminder that Mushkin.com has free shipping right now. The cheapest generic crap ram on pricewatch.com with shipping is $38-39, why not get brand name for the same price? Basic PC133 $39

Although I like Mushkin and have purchased a good deal of memory there, the Mushkin Budget (basic, whatever they call it) is exactly that and should be compared to other generic Ram. I have had trouble with this stuff even running at rated speeds. Mushkin was top-notch about exchanging memory and I picked up Mosel instead for a few bucks more. This was all many months ago.

i'm using the basic pc133 128 mushkin stick right now, and it's actually working really well for me! i had 256 mb of generic stuff before, and that stuff gave me sooooooooo many problems with stability, but this new stick is working wonders.

i've overclocked to 133fsb and 222, and everything is working fine.

mushkin's basic stuff is not just normal generic stuff... they still take pride in their products, and their stuff works well! i bought this stick at 47 dollars no shipping, and i'm very happy with my purchase! =)

Yeah dude, their stuff should not be compared with cheap generic ram. Its basic and not the most highest of quality but still, its pretty good.

Spent some time looking around. Noticed they have their Rev 1.5 Cas 2 on special for $99 for a 256 Meg stick right now. Seems like a good deal, but what's the difference between rev 1.5, rev 2, and rev 3? For $99 for quality Mushkin memory, seems like that 256 Megger is just waiting for me to buy her. Any feedback for me? I don't know tons about memory.

RagMan:

I've been using 128 MB Mushkin version 1.5 in a classic athlon Abit KA-7 MB (very picky about memory) since May in two machines. It's worked flawlessly.

OTOH, I don't overclock, so can't give any comments about that.

Muskin is a great company to deal with-call them with any questions or concerns.

The Mushkin basic memory is TOTAL UNDILUTED CRAP.

I've ordered it two times. First time, it was actually Infineron
chip memory with Mushkin stickers on it...Pretty good. So the
next time they had a special, I ordered a bunch.

...And I got this total POS at least as bad as ANYTHING you'd get
from cheapo vendors on Pricewatch. The brand, if you want
to call it a brand, was "PQI". TOTAL general crap that I'd
recommend ONLY for building cheap computers for others...They
didn't even have the decency to place one of their Mushkin stickers
on the RAM.

Up to that point, I had a lot of respect for Muskin. Now I think--at
least with respect to budget memory--they're crap.

ANY namebrand memory (ValueRam, etc.) is better than this. Heck,
even the cheapo name-brand-chips on unknown PCB stuff that
populates the floor of the Pricewatch search is better.

DO NOT BUY THIS BUDGET MUSHKIN MEMORY. You have been warned.

I just ordered some the other week for $45 from Mushkin. I like it. I got two stikcs to go with a stick that I bought months ago (@$99). I had some issues shipping but it was an issue with fedex and mushkin was very helpful in rectifying the situation. This isn't high performance stuff but its many times better than cheap generic (which is all I used to buy until I had too many problems with the stuff).
Kwad: did you talk to Mushkin about it? They would have gladly replaced it if you were having problems with it running in specs.

I don't know about this "basic" stuff, but I have a stick of PC100 that I ordered a couple of years ago to run my 300A at 450, and it works perfectly now running my 550E at 770, which is 140FSB.

Just for piece of mind though, I would buy the good stuff.

Druxboyzz:

Which "basic" ram do you have? The good stuff they used to send
out, or the junk PQI stuff that doesn't even have their sticker
on it? As I said, the first time I got "basic" ram, it was
excellent. The second time (and, unfortunately, larger order)
I got POS floor scrapings-on-a-chip PQI--stuff so bad Mushkin
didn't even bother to put their sticker on it...

I'm not buying any more ram for awhile since I've got 2GB sitting around waiting to go into customers systems. Oh, I might be persuaded if Crucial drops 256MB PC133 CAS2 to $50 (inc. s&h )!

this is what i love about anandtech. you guys are so picky about your RAM! i always just buy the cheapest stuff i can find - never had a problem (except that i have to enter my bios and reboot after a hard boot when i have a specific stick of ram in the system) that is weird... i don't know about that. but, i just bought some name brand pc133 RAM, and i am running it at 66MHz.
