Since when has this started? I can't find them anywhere online. Just came in a brand new PC purchased from one of our local dealers.....

This is likely a 9800 PRO with a BIOS flash to a 9800XT.

If that's the case, then those are some HIGHLY unethical and likely illegal business practices if this came from a computer store.

What are the clock speeds on it? Are they XT clock speeds?
What did they charge for this "9800XT"?
If you don't have an itemized bill, demand one. They probably also charged you sales tax on their labor if they didn't itemize your bill, which is also illegal.

This is from a highly reputable dealer that has been in this area for quite some time now. We do have an itemized bill, and it does state 9800XT on it....

I just did a search for 128MB 9800XT, didn't come up with anything and pricewatch doesn't even list a 128MB version as an option. What is the dealers name? Do they have a website?

These guys have been around since I was in High School. I don't think there is anything shady going on with them, but definitely strikes me as odd....

Took it out, sure enough:

MSI RX9800PRO-TD128
DA-MSI43

Our invoice shows as MSI 9800Pro 128mb

I believe that's normal codeyf. The newer MSI 9800 Pro cards all have the R360 core and I have read many reports that if you install newer Catalyst sets that the card is actually recognized as an XT without having to flash the BIOS.

If you were billed for a 9800 Pro then there is nothing fishy going on there. Count yourself lucky, I wish my 9800 Pro had an R360 core. 🙂
