Things got a lot more complicated... She canceled the night out that she planned (remember, i didn't ask her to see a movie- she asked me) and skipped out on meeting me for some drinks (again, she planned it) so I confronter her about it.. Supposeldy a mutual "friend" (ok, i hate the guy) was telling her that I'm sending him colorful emails about her and that she should be careful around me.... I barely know the guy but she's been avoiding me because of the lies he's been telling her - fvcking weird though - i think he's jealous of me! which is odd because i'm a fat ugly dude and he's 6'3, buff and attractive.. so.. yeah, I promised her that it was a lie and asked her to get print outs of the emails.. but, still. it's a very weird turn...

Guys on ATOT don't do embarass updates to threads like this but I'm bucking that trend for the sake of the people here that care, like my man alk... I told her how I felt and got shot down.. It was especially brutal since she thought that I was kidding around when I told her because she thinks of me as such a good friend. We didn't speak for a few days (I was playing that manipulative "Well, if you don't want to go out then I won't be your friend" game) but then I matured up and we're still rather friendly. I'll be seeing Kill Bill 2 with her but, sigh, as friends (not that KB2 is much of a date movie).. I'm ready for you guys to call me a loser..

You probably screwed up the relationship even if she says it didn't. She will feel uncomfortable around you now on.

(i know some idiot's going to think that wasn't a joke), I have been shot down a lot. Trick is most of the time it's not direct like that though.
Most guys make the mistake of this:
"Hey can I get your number?"
no name, no conversation, not even a dance.....jesus make a girl at least think she's semi-special.
I always start up a conversation, one mostly because chances are I am the one that's not going to be interested. If a chick doesn't at least understand some of the stuff I know she's not going to be more than a dessert for the evening or weekend. Most of the time in a quick chat you can pick up whether she'd be interested in continuing it and more often than not even will suggest you give her a call.
The risk comes from the friends transition and I have been on both sides of that and have had all combinations from a good outcome to a crappy one.

Oh, I know... I couldn't go to sleep because this was bugging me so I had to say something.. We still speak a lot though I'm sure we won't be hanging out as much as we used to...

Oh, I hear ya.. I've never in my life just asked a girl for her number... I've become pretty close with her and she even said that she trusts me more than she trusts anyone else (other than her mom).. But, yeah, with that comes the awkward transition that you mentioned... Well, no transition in my case!
My batting average is terrible.. Only really pursued 6 girls in my life, only went somewhere with 2... My ex.. Well, we're trying the friends thing but she's still an annoying brat and we still fight.. We saw each other for the first time in a few weeks and I blurted out that she was annoying and.. Well, all hell broke lose.. Hehe, actually, I have no desire to get back with her so I don't find the fights stressful, I find them kinda funny. Thanks for asking though
It was better you asked and got rejected than to keep posting "what if" threads all day like some infamous posters have done. (A member with a certain Star Wars character for a name comes to mind, for instance). Now you know where you stand and you can move on, wherever and however that may be.
