1280x768 (VGA) vs 1280x720 (DVI -> HDMI)

I currently have a 6800NU hooked up to a 32" Philips LCD TV at 1280x768 that has VGA input. Since there's VGA output on the card as well, it's an easy connection.

However, I wanted to upgrade my system while keeping the TV as a monitor. Seeing as how all most current-gen video cards only have DVI-D output, I was thinking of purchasing a DVD to HDMI adapter and going to my TV that way.

I've read around and have learned that most LCD TV's can only support 720p (1280x720) resolutions when going through a digital signal such as HDMI.

So should I purchase a DVI to VGA adapter and continue to use the same resolution I am right now, or should I just go ahead and go digital via DVI to HDMI?

Which resolution do more games support, 720 or 768? A lot of the games I've been playing lately have neither and if I select anything other than 800x600 1024x768 then either my TV goes black with a 'No Input' message or everything will be extremely blurry and unplayable.

Thanks for any info.

I play at 1360x768 with DVI. Most games now days support that res. However, I have had to modify a few. You can get widescreen support here.
