1280x768 HDTV: How does that work?

Usually all that means is that the vertical pixels use only 720 of the available 768. This is a letterbox 16:9 format. That tells me that 48 of the remaining pixels will be seen across the width of the monitor as thin black borders, top, bottom, or both if divided.
