I mostly just do gaming and would like to know what you all think is the best amount to have? I know more is always better but is 256 just overkill in a gaming rig right now and in the near future? I am using a CUSL2 with one stick of crucial pc133 cas2 right now.
256MB will give you a nice cushion. Given the current memory prices (we've been waiting for a year), it's hard to not upgrade. So, do it if it is in your budget.
If you don't need the 256 don't get it. Ram prices are falling all the time (as long as they don't go up) 🙂 so anyways hold out as long as you can until prices drop or you get a rebate or something like that. 128 seems fine for me...
128meg is like a V-6, gets the job done.
256meg is like a V-8, gets the job done and is fast as well.
Win98 ver. 1, 2, or 3 don't bother. Win2K 256meg min. 256 is were W2K takes off and leaves all others behind.
There is always going to be something around the corner. If you have the money burning a whole in your pocket you mise well buy some more ram. I dont see pc133 ram dissappearing after the release of DDR.
Under "normal" operation, I can't see any difference between 192 Mb and 256 Mb in Win98SE. Maybe a 1% difference in the size of the Page File at startup. I guess 1% does count. DDR's a comin'. Mebbe best to hold on to the money until then.
Thanks for all the replys. I saw the Hot deal on the Crucial 128 cas2 from Buy.com with 30 off 150 with free shipping so i grabed it. I want the V-8. 🙂
