Though I can't comment on your specific question, I do know that there were developers working on a UHD (Ultra High Definition) standard. They somehow got a camera that shot at something like 16x the current High definition standard, and found some displays that would display it. They said that a number of people who actually got to see the UHD broadcast became nauseated and said they couldn't discern UHD from reality. Again, this is just from what I read in an article, so do some research out their, google it 😉
 
good god, where did u see this 3840x2160 display? thats above hd, and since you know what hd res is.... of course it 'll work on a higher res with correct hardware/software. dvds playback on monitors and hdtvs which have much higher res every day.
 
I remember reading that the only reason LCD makers don't make higher res screens is because there's no demand. Since LCD's use something similiar to a semiconductor fab process, it's feasible that they could attain resolution on par with the feature density of processors. That is to say, the p4 has like ~44million transitors in 1 cm^2 so maybe a screen could have resolution like that. I think the only real limitation would be electrical resistance in the long thin row & column wires in an LCD.
 
well from what i remember they can't easily, because the smaller and more numerous the pixels, the more problems with yield. they can't even get todays lcds right, warrantees don't even cover 3+ dead pixels from most manufacturers. and they don't seem to test for dead pixels before selling units, they just hope consumers will absorb the defective products at full price.
 
Don't ever run at that resolution. Run the res at the displays' NATIVE resoution (NO display has that high of a native resolution)

From your links it looks like its just using extended display to fill up the space. (From the Matrox link)

Since there's nothing produced at that resolution, and everything would be so small to be usefull, I don't see the use for it.
You would be spending all your time zooming in.

It does look cool though.
