I think that there are a few things that just can't be taught properly on the Intarweb.

easy, straight backswing and straight follow through

dont try hooking the ball, cant do it with house balls

focus on the arrows in front of you instead of focusing on the pin (always aim at the middle pin)

I noticed that if you threw the ball instead of rolling it, you will get less consistancy. If you hear BOOOM when you release the ball, no good.

<-- is a <100 bowler.

Hold the bowling ball with both hands, slowly lick it from top to bottom. Wink over at the girl next to you and chuck that sucker down for a Strike :D

Well, first of all I must say this is truly pathetic. That being said he's what I do when I bowl....

1. Don't rent shoes, wear nice slippery socks.
2. Find a ball that fits your hand well.
3. Make sure you wear a hat (or some kind of headgear) that you can viciously throw when you mess up!
4. Upon releasing the ball be sure to have enough momentum left over to spin yourself (using the slippery socks) so that it looks cool.
5. If you follow these steps you could look like a total fool, but you might bowl a consistent 140 like me.

Learn how to score before you go, unless the alley has computerized scoring. I ended up crying to my mom in second grade because my class went bowling and I didn't know how to score. :(

just roll/throw the ball straight down, dont even try to put any spin or do anything fancy with the ball, just keep it simple. You should at least get a 90 or better score. good luck!

Why wouldn't you be able to hook a house ball?

I used to have a lot of fun bowling. When I met my wife 13 years ago, I was "enlightened" on how to bowl. Both my in laws wear 300 rings and are in the bowling hall of fame in st louis

Bowling correctly is a lot of work and no fun IMHO. Toss that ball best you can and have a good time.
