Hi
Id like to buy a big lcd monitor to decrease eye strain and easy back pain. Right now im looking at the 2001FP. I currently have a 19inch CRT and use 1084x1200 and it works well. If i bump the video res up to 1200x1600, would that put much more strain on my cpu and stuff? I have a 1.5 ghz comp, 128meg ram, and a crappy vid card, radeon 9000 non pro, no dvi. I understand the non dvi part can be a problem but I plan to upgrade that if it only costs about 50 bucks. But my main concern is will I be able to handle 1200x1600 smoothly? Right now my comp is sluggish after a day of usage without restarting. Will that go worse? Also is there really a need to use DVI? I do not play games, just watch movies and such.

Thank you for any replies.

Dude, it's 1600x1200. The only way you'd get 1200x1600 is if you pivot it 90 degrees.

Upgrade the vid card IF you buy the new monitor. The rest will be fine. I personally couldn't live with less than 512 megs of RAM, but if money is tight you can live with it for now. I'd buy more mem as soon as your budget allows.

heh gotcha on the 1600x1200 thing. thx for the reply.

umm... quick question, does this resolution on this size a monitor make fonts look bigger? or will it look about the same size and just give you more space for it.

like in microsoft word, if u measure font 12, magnification 100%, on a 17in at 1280x1024, will it be the same as font 12, mag 100% on a 20 in at 1600x1200.

Fonts get pretty small. But you can make them bigger.
I just got a 2000FP. I had no idea how great it would be to have a 20" LCD. I absolutely love it.

I've got the 21" NEC fe2111sb crt monitor. It can run 1600x1200 for the desktop but even after I increase the dpi and fonts I still find things a bit small (athough I don't have the best eyesight). I run my desktop at 1280x1024 and like it. Games at 1600x1200 though are great if your video card can drive it.
