WinBook.com... Dell.com

Do you want Intel or AMD? Just configure the best machine you can for that price at Dell.com
You didn't say what you will be using it for. Gaming? Mobilie Radeon 7500 is the best.

For that price, what about this: link- its the Toshiba Satelite at the bottom.
I have no experience, but after rebates is only about $1000. Its the best option/money one I've seen (though I have to admit, I haven't looked too much).

Why is everyone recommending Dell? Before this I've never heard anything good about Dell. When a n00b friend of mine wanted a computer I advised him to get a Dell. he got a Dell desktop. The reason I didn't want to build him a computer was so that he could see how many problems an OEM would give him so he wouldn't bitch at me if I ever built him one. I feel bad now because half the games he's tried will not run on it, he has compatability issues left and right, and his machine is no more upgradeable than an HP! Furthermore the "great" tech support is worthless, and the well constructed case is proprietary. I myself made the mistake of ordering the logitech package with the z-560 speakers about 3 weeks ago. Haven't seen them since! For buisness's Dell may be the way to go, but I don't think for home users... otherwise they'd have AMD systems.
