I have a Venus 12 which came with a loud variable fan. I was just about to buy a Zalman7000alcu but thought perhaps I could try a fan adapter with a my 120mm fan that is 30db at 79 cfm...say I throttle it back to 50cfm and have it almost silent...could be a potent combo. The other side to that is with the adapter it should minimize the dead spot in the middle because of backpressure.

I am really looking to hear from anyone who has actually used one and to hear what your results were.

I am all ears.

i built my own with cardboard and duct tape once, but to tell you the truth it's prob better to just get a really fast 80mm fan or a 92mm fan with good cfm

dust will soon become the main problem imo

Prolly, but I have an extra 120mm fan that I can run VERY quiet at decent CFM, and my whole goal is to get good performance while quiet with the emphasis on quiet. Additionally I will have my Aluminum AOC fan with a HUGE Biohazzard grille which should look pretty sporty in my window case.

What purpose does the smaller hole give you on the exhaust. I have a sonata case and could do something like that.

It's not an exhaust, it's an intake. It focuses the air on the cpu heat pipe.

How did you get that fan connected to the Zalman Bracket? I thought the bracket only connects fans parallel to itself, not perpendicular. Did you mod teh Bracket? I cant really see clearly in the picture.

thx

I've been wondering this myself. I've been looking at a fan adapter from SVC to hook up this Enermax fan to a heatsink. I'm thinking twice as much CFM as a regular 80mm fan would make some slight difference. And the slower RPMs saving my ears would be nice.

I will let you know how it goes...I should know in the next few days. I got an acrylic one from svc for about 5.50 shipped first class. Not too much for an experiment.

can anybody suggest a 120mm to 80mm or a 92mm to 80mm adapter that'll fit the clip style connection found on Thermalright models? I have the ALX-800 and the only bad thing I can say about it is the clip style connector which has two clips attached to the HS to secure the fan instead of screws. Does anyone know if this Thermaltake SilentCat will do the trick? http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/a2013-14.html

I can't believe I hadn't seen one of those before. I would just take my 80mm clips and...er...make them work...ie bend them to fit. A little over hang will raise it about 1/4-1/8 of an inch...you can do it.

the general concensus among us enthusiasts a few years ago was that... these do little to help, and in some cases cause heating problems. one word... TURBULANCE. i refer to the "adapters" i mean, if you can rig a larger fan without a funnel (adapter), by all means. please not that the motor of a larger fan is larger, so you wont really get the benefit of the larger fan effect.
