12 V Adapter replacement

Hi,

My Linksys Router power adapter ceased to work yesterday.
***************************
Input: 100-240V - 1A 50-60Hz *
Output: 12V 2A *
***************************
Thinking of buying a replacement. However I have another free adapter but with slightly different specifications. Please see below and let me know if I can use it. I have heard using one with lower amp may heat up faster and is thereby risky. My router is generally kept on for almost 14 hours a day, sometimes throughout.
****************************
Input: 100-240V - 0.4A 50-60Hz *
Output: 12V 1.00A *
****************************

Thanks in advance.

If you need one right away and have a desktop computer, the yellow power line off the 4 power output plug is 12v. You can also use one car battery or twelve 1.5v AAA, AA, C, or D alkaline batteries. 🙂

Try "The Source" (used to be Radio Shack) they usually have them.

If you use a battery or other 12v source temporarily just be sure to match the polarity of the old adapter. There's usually a symbol on it that shows what the tip/ring is. Typically the ring is negative and tip is positive I think.
