$12 Separating between new E3 3000+ and New E6 3200+. Will be overclocking-please help me choose.

Help me, please 😕. Being a Noob to A64 overclocking, which would you choose? I found a new 3000+ 05 week 02 locally in town for $150 tax included. Newegg sells the new E6 3200+ for $162 delivered. I will be overclocking. Should I choose the 3200+ for the 11x multiplier but OC is only ok. Or should I go for the E3 Venice 3000+? I have plain Corsair XMS 2 x 512mb PC3200.

What mobo do you have?
The ram may be the limit to your OC, not the 3200...
I have the same ram but in a 2gb setup and I can't reach the cpu OC cieling.

3200+ is 10x multi, 3000+ is 9x multi. If your mobo can do 300Mhz HTT then save the money and go with the 3000+. If you arn't sure if your mobo can do 300 HTT then play it safe and go with the 3200's 10x multi.

RAM won't limit your OC, you just use a RAM Divider to take care of that problem!!!

I think the option of having an extra multiplier is worth the extra $12.

Also RAM might conceivably limit your OC. Some mobos only go down to 2/3 divider (like mine), with which DDR400 is reached at HTT 300. So with slow mem it could.

The OP states he will be using PC3200 RAM for this so there should not be any problems. Mem normally runs at 200Mhz, but HTT of 300Mhz makes mem run at 300Mhz, 2/3rds of 300Mhz is 200Mhz. I don't think he will be trying to push his 3000+ Venice past 2.7Ghz so I think he is safe with PC3200 RAM even if his mobo does not allow him more then a 2/3 divider.

If it were me I'd spend the extra $12 for the 3200+ because of the 10x multiplier .. if it were $40-$50 I'd be singing a different tune.
