i'm looking to get a laptop for school and am intrigued by both. They cost and weigh roughly the same. Anyone have experience with both? like one better than the other?

I've already got a pc at home, so i was thinking the t41 might play nicer, but i might be wrong.

id like to be able to do some audio work in addition to the regular office/chat/internet/web development junk..

anyone think one is better than the other?

the main difference is the screen size and resolution. i used to own a 12" iBook. i had no problem w/ the screen size and resolution.... using it as my everyday rig.... until i started doing some coding on it.

what kind of sw do u need for ur audio work? do they have os x version too?

I just got a T41 and sold a 12" powerbook. Powerbooks are nice if you don't need a lot of windows apps like I did. I wanted to make the "switch" but it didn't work out for me, not yet at least. I have a lot of engineering apps that are windows based only, no OS X. I notice that this T41 runs a lot cooler than the powerbook, the powerbook runs real hot after a while while T41 has very good cooling

T41. I don't even know how you could compare the two.

well, i've heard os x is better for audio work. I want to be able to use an external midi controller and softsynths without too much latency...

i have no idea how to find out which is better in that respect though.

i'm leaning toward the t41...

but i ought to try one last thing:

anyone know of a notebook sized about like the x31 but that comes iwth a cd drive?

Get a powerbook. If you want to work with audio you should have an audio line in and at least one firewire port, both of which the t41 lacks. I would consider getting a 15" powerbook because it has both a firewire 400 and a firewire 800 port (which the 12" doesn't have). It also has more video ports if you ever want to mess around with video. imho a pc and a powerbook will be the perfect set up for audio.

ooh, yeah, those laptops at dynamism look so nice. but they're way too expensive.

i think i'm leaning toward a 12" pbook. i dont want a 15" pb because they're too expensive (and heavy).

anyone know if audio program files (cubase, reaktor, etc) can transfer from one to the other? i'd guess they can... but...
