I don't care where they made as long as they are real TY disks. I realize the originals were made in Japan.

How to Tell

I won't buy them unless they're Made in Japan, thats just me. I know for a fact that if they don't show made in Japan that your chances of getting fakes are pretty good. Even if they do have a Chinese factory, there are simply too many fakes out there for it to be a guarentee, unless they're made in Japan.

Hm real or not, $0.24 a disc is still pretty good to me. I had no idea companies were even faking media codes.

There is no indication on how to tell if its a fake or real when buying only a single spindle. Information on your link shows buying a box of TY disk w/c i'm sure not everybody will be buying. I think Fuji's DVD media are guaranteed TY and made in Japan.

While that is true, the main point of that post was to show that the media should show made in Japan. TY media is usually more expensive, you can't expect most deals like this to be the real thing because REAL TY media is hard to find at a price like that.

You get what you pay for. I burn enough things that are invaluable to me, that I don't want decaying media. I know first hand the differences between good media and bad, I'd rather spend a bit more to have more peace of mind.

Taiyo Yuden does make discs in Japan. Maybe they have a new factory in China. Do you want to be the beta tester?

Still, the odds of non-MIJ "TYG02" being fakes are very high. And if it's a fake, it's not even good enough to be labelled with a bad brand media code like CMC. Do you want to trust your data to that?

If you want quality discs, buy quality discs. Go to a reputable online store and buy genuine MIJ Taiyo Yuden discs. If you want cheap discs, buy cheap discs by somebody who at least isn't highly suspicious.

Fuji now sells Ritek mostly. They used to sell TY, but decided to go cheap. I sent their customer service an email with my opinion of that change, and got back a reply of the form "it's just as good." Shows how much Fuji cares about their product quality and about their customer's data. When I read year old Ritek discs and year old TY discs, I can tell the difference very clearly.
