SCFI Fri, 1/16, 9:00 PM EST 1 hr
"Pilot"
New, 1/16/2015, Sci-fi, Drama, Adventure, Adaptation, Mystery
Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, a man from a decimated future travels to present day on a mission to locate and eliminate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually all but annihilate the human race.

Wonder if this one will be any good, or will it be another SCFI 'meh' show ?

Helix, season 2, is also on after this show...

Loved the movie, am 100% certain I will hate the show. The characters don't look like Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt and SciFi isn't exactly known for quality programming. And, with the 'twist' already ruined, I just don't see how much of a show this could possibly be. I give it MAYBE a single season, and that is only if it spends more than half the time in the future.

I'll give it a shot.. Movie was amazing, loved Madeleine Stowe in it. No Bruce Willis or Madeleine Stowe or Terry Gilliam = huh?

Will record, I love how Sci-Fi does it, make a show for a niche audience, but keeps its cheap, does not spend much and it survives and everyone is happy

Watching now... The lack of two movie stars at the top of their careers is very noticeable so far.

SPOILERS of original movie and new show below.

So, they essentially covered 95% of the movie in the first 20 minutes. The relationship between Kathryn Reilly (Madeleine Stowe) and Cole (Bruce Willis) took a day plus long kidnapping to build -- a day where she sees Cole kill a guy, he saves her life, and she takes a leap of faith on him when she gets the chance to get away. Good development of a relationship and some degree of trust for when he comes back within days or weeks.

In the show, Cole shows up, kidnaps CASSANDRA Reilly for like 5 minutes, and because she sees him disappear and a small magic trick, they're suddenly really close and she trusts him. Kind of works, but completely cheats, overly condenses it.

The final half of the show is essentially the last act in the movie with some parts of the movie rearranged.

I think the movie was just too damn good? The chemistry between Willis and Stowe is excellent. Stowe looks smart, talks with authority, and is very charming. Willis is just batshit crazy.

The show? Neither of the leads are doing it for me so far. Relationship isn't really developed and I don't find either character that likable.

^^ Pretty much covers exactly what I heard about the show. Rushes the entire first part of the movie, which effectively eliminates all of the tension. Add the fact that the actors and writing, presumably, are not as good, and you end up with a pale imitation of the film.

12 Monkeys the film is an all-time favourite, so I think I will just stick with that instead.

I thought the movie was OK, but only slightly above average.

I am guessing the TV show will suck and will be cancelled before the season ends, or will only last one season.

I'll have to check it out, looked a bit promising from some things I'd read and forgot about it.

Was OK. Lead female is worth looking at. Would watch again.

Acting left something to be desired, but I think it is because I'm used to the movie characters so the casting seems a bit off, which are obviously quite different on this (never read the story it's based on so don't know which is truer to form).

However, it isn't too bad yet.

Yeah, not a Bruce Willis fan, so I also never saw the movie...but the show was kind of meh to me...not terrible, but not great either. (typical SyFy) Too many plot holes, too many predictable parts, but the acting wasn't horrible...and (most of) the special effects looked decent.

I'll keep watching for now. HOPEFULLY it gets better.

The story in this is quite different than the movie which is the hardest part to get around.

The Army of the 12 Monkeys are just an animal rights group and they only think they are behind the virus because of a joke left on a dry cleaners answering machine.

Interestingly enough, Brad Pitt wasn't paid much for this film, as he wasn't a star. But, but the time this movie came out, he had been in Se7en, Interview With a Vampire, and Legends of the Fall, so he was a huge star and it helped the box office draw.

seems decent for a first episode. like the movie but it's been so long I'd really need to watch it again to recall most of the details.

This show isn't half bad. I vaguely remember the movie, although I remember really liking it. The one thing I wish they played out a little bit more was
whether or not he was actually from the future. I kinda remember that being ambiguous in the movie. They kinda answered that too quickly, although it explains why she believed him so quickly. Dont need much more proof than the guy disappearing right in front of her. Although using the watch as a bomb shouldn't have worked like that. It should have caused a black hole or wiped out the timeline completely, but it was a nice touch that the watch was Frosts to begin with.

Anyways, its good enough to keep watching.

I've been watching a ton of Eureka as just something to have as background noise and I have no idea why. All the characters and the cheesy-ness of the show grew on me. 2006-2007 nostalgia I guess. That and alot of shows have dark themes these days (ie walking dead, breaking bad, etc.) and eureka puts me into a good mood. I just like people being happy and shootin the breeze I guess. I have no idea why Eureka fits that.

Technically the future people only heard that voicemail after sending Cole back to investigate. It was the message written by Railly on that wall that makes the future people think the Army of the 12 Monkeys was responsible.
