The infamous Windows 2000 75 hz refresh rate bug that first appeared in post-6.31 release drivers as documented in the GeForce FAQ is still lurking around in these supposed "WHQL" drivers. Basically, the gist is the drivers incorrectly read the DDC monitor info from quite a few monitors (but apparently NOT all monitors exhibit this behavior), and the result is the drivers will not display any modes higher than 75 hz in your display properties. 75 hz puts quite a strain on the eyes. No amount of registry editing will fix the problem, either. The only way around it is to install Powerstrip and define a custom refresh rate. Definitely makes you wonder what exactly is the significance of "WHQL". Obviously not a lot.
I've emailed Brian Burke over at Nvidia, detailing the issue and he replied saying the issue has been forwarded to the driver team. So hopefully this annoying issue will be solved.
