don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but:

Untitled-2.jpg

this is my 7850 and it runs stable at this setting. i had just OC'd it with Asus GPU Tweak before the new catalyst drivers offered this extra OC ability. also with the asus utility i was running 1200/1450 @ 1.176v exactly. i prefer using CCC so i uninstalled asus GPU tweak.

here is the weird thing...NOWHERE in CCC to my understanding is there a place to increase voltage. so why then is my video card still running at 1.176 instead of 1.075 stock??? is CCC/AMD automatically adjusting it for me? i'm very confused.

(fyi i was told the 10% power adjusting slider i have enabled has nothing to do with increasing voltage)

This was happening before as well. Once you unlock the clock speeds using the Asus tool you can do it in CCC as well.

I don't have asus gpu tweak installed and CCC still shows 1125 max for my 7970

Try running the Afterburner 2.2 .exe file with the "-xcl" modifier to unlock, reboot, and I think that will do the trick. I can't remember for sure though since I am not at my regular PC right now... but anyway why would you want to use CCC anyway? There are no presets. I'd much rather just do everything in Afterburner 2.2.

The less software, the better. Less chance of conflicts. Not recently, but with the previous gen cards I saw a number of threads where uninstalling the aftermarket O/C'ing tools fixed crashes, etc...

You can't change the voltage in CCC. I don't know what that power level slider to +20% does, though.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/7 and http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/8

If you know what you are doing when oc/ov'ing, you can simply shove it to +20% or higher and leave it there. It's to prevent people who don't know what they're doing from killing their cards.

how is this relevant to my topic? i'm just trying to understand why my card has no voltage regulator software, and yet still runs 10% over stock voltage. there is no explanation currently.

I was not replying to you. Sick asked about what the +20% meant. I referred him to an explanation of PowerTune.

no problem...so should i leave it at 10% or should i adjust it back down to 0%?

still though it doesn't seem like anyone knows why my card is overvolted since there currently is no utility that is doing it. doesn't that seem odd to anyone other than me???

Anandtech explained this in one of their reviews a while back. You can pick up two 7850s from the same company, same model, etc. and they still might have different default voltages. There is no one stock voltage anymore, though apparently Sapphire likes to set the voltage on all their OC edition chips to 1.075V. If you look at the various hardware sites that reviewed the 7850, they had voltages all over the place. Example: TPU had one with default 3D voltage of 1.24V: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7850_HD_7870/29.html

my default voltage was 1.075...i got it about a month ago and before i did any OC it was set at 1.075 and i know that FOR SURE.

it didn't go to 1.176 until i manually set it there in Asus GPU Tweak. then i uninstalled the Asus utility and now it is stuck on defaulting to 1.176.

I could never seem to change my voltage with ASUS GPU Tweak.

Maybe you should reinstall it and set it to whatever you want, and then uninstall it. :)

i'm actually fine with it at 1.176, so i think i'm just going to leave it.

do you think i should move the power slider to 0% instead of 10%? i've read about it, but still don't really know if i need it.

lastly, my fan on the GPU goes to 50% in the 10 seconds between windows booting up and the CCC loading. is that bad/any way to fix it? i have no idea why it is happening, didn't happen when i just had the asus utility.

thanks for the help.

I already linked to an explanation of PowerTune, above. If you don't understand what those two pages are talking about, then I would suggest just leaving it at 0%.

If the fan stays at 50% then that's weird. Maybe you have it set to manual or something. If it's just a spike then I wouldn't worry.
