Hi every TeAm AnandTech folder, previous folder and future folder!

The
11th Annual Folding@Home Holiday Season Race

will be a three way race:
  1. Hardware Canucks Folding Team vs the full TeAm AnandTech Folding Team
  2. Tom's Hardware Folding Team vs the full TeAm AnandTech Folding Team
  3. Sub-team 1 of TeAm AnandTech vs sub-team 2 of TeAm AnandTech.
The race will start December 1, 18:00 UTC.
Race #1 will end January 1, 2017 12:00 UTC.
Race #2 will end December 7, 18:00 UTC.
Race #3 will end January 1, 2017, 12:00 UTC.
More details will emerge in due time, please see the this thread.

Here are the rules:

1: Have fun.
2: Let others have fun.
3: Crunch as much as you can, as often as you can and as efficiently as you can.
4: Assimilating computers, adding members to the teams, switching teams and borghing is allowed.
5: (Sid's rule) Whistle while you work; DON'T whistle while you sip.
6: (Sid's rule) No pouting.

For members of TeAm AnandTech:
  • Please post in this thread if you intend to take part.
  • If you need help installing or running the F@H app go to: http://folding.stanford.edu/home/ or ask for help here. The TeAm AnandTech number is 198. [Edit by Smoke]
  • I'll put the sub-teams together one day before the race but the discussion about who will race against whom is open.
  • Please remember: joining and recruiting (as well as borghing, assimilating and upgrading hardware) is allowed and encouraged.
  • Once the race is started, I decide into which team the new members go.
  • Please follow your good sense and your employer's/friend's rules if you are considering to use computers which do not belong to you!

For members of Hardware Canucks Folding Team and Tom's Hardware Folding Team:
  • The only score which counts are the Folding@Home scores.
  • Rules 1 - 6 apply (see above).
  • Please remember: joining, recruiting as well as borghing, assimilating and upgrading hardware is allowed and encouraged.
  • Please follow your good sense and your employer's/friend's rules if you are considering to use computers which do not belong to you! You are allowed to use computers which are used for testing in reviews ( ;) Tom's Hardware)
  • The Distributed Computing forum is a very polite forum. Please follow the forum rules. "Badmouthing", a mild degree of non-personal harassment is tolerated, personal attacks are not.
  • I'll keep track of the racing teams' scores. However, since I am merely a human being and thus prone to make mistakes now and then (I do try to check and double check ...) other stats-masters and stats-wizards are encouraged to do their own stats. When errors are found, please post in this thread, and the errors will be corrected.
More info about the race will be posted in this thread.

At this point we usually yell our war cry: we fold more! More! MOre! MORe! MORE!

Here are the latest stats:
Here are the stats for December 9, 2016., the 8th day of the 11th Annual Folding@Home Holiday Season Race. The stats are from http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_list.php?s=, updated at 21:00 UTC (=12pm CST). Only the points count. The ppd is there for information only.

Well, you know I am in. NOTE, my current ppd is a little outdated, it should be close to 5 million, not 4.1, as I just added a few cards. (more to come when it gets cold enough)

2nd post updated with the racers in the post above.
Is anybody in touch with Pokey, theAnimal, Desslok, Mike90, DainBramaged and other folders who have taken part in the races previous years? If so, mal them PM them, call them ... we need every folder we can get into this race!

Team 198 is for AnandTech, and if you didn't previously have a passkey, request one (or they can send a lost passkey to your original sign up email address if you still use it). My understanding of the passkey is that it uniqely identifies YOU in case anyone else has a similar username, and also when adding new systems, you get full points immediately instead of reduced points for the first 10 tasks. (after the 1st 10 tasks you get full points)

If you don't like the web control panel, more options are available by going to the advance control panel (right click the F@H icon near the clock on Windows).

Tis the right time of year to start heating the basement again. :)

1.75M PPD. From one system. /Tony drools on his keyboard/

Not always, but right now in that pic, one of the 1080's is getting 950k ppd ! The other is going close to 800k. The cpu is only doing 13k for 4 of the 8 threads. I need the other 4 to feed the video cards. Don't ever even get close to 100% CPU when you have GPU's on the box. Not worth loosing 100k GPU to get an extra 2k on CPU :)

Edit: when I get one or 2 of the 9208 or 9212 units, I have seen the ppd on one card as low as 300k ! That sure kills the total output.

Of particular importance, when using the advanced control panel, is that you can to go to Configure/Slots and actually REMOVE the CPU if you have a GPU running, thus making dual/quad core systems more responsive and allowing you to run other projects if you like. Also you may need to ADD 2nd and 3rd GPU's, as only one is configured by default (I think).

It will auto-add any new or multiple GPU's it is possible to try and over ride this, but its even beyond me. When I was adding the 290 to the dual-6234's, it would not even see it using 7.2 due to the on-board GPU in the server board.. After some research, the fix was to upgrade to 7.4, and that auto-added it !

I now have 3 multi-GPU boxes, but I can't turn on number 3 until it cools down. It was 50f overnight, and with 3 windows open, and the thermostat set to 75, it was still running the AC in the middle of the night !
