Does it really matter? From your link:
Looking around there's editors choice all over these series from 960 Shader samples and 1120 Shader ones - one thing is for sure, these cards still kick butt.

Well yes I would like to know if 6850 has 1120 or 960 shaders for a lot of reasons

Holy smokes. If that is true, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be modding and overclocking this bad boy.

Sapphire card is on the way!

They have 6850's with 2 6 pin connectors. :)
Which model ?
People thought there were two on the Asus direcCu 6850, there are not.

Saphire 5770's shipped with the shader count of the 5750 enabled, but at the correct clock speed. 720 not 800 it was supposed to have.
Those cards benched slower.

Updated: Lower clocks but 1120 shaders

Some of the review sites have received some quite interesting Radeon HD 6850 samples, those that have all the 1120 shaders enabled. According to the posts, it is simply a matter of different BIOS and HD 6850 could end up with 1120 instead of the 960 Stream Processors.

Of course, this might end up to be just a few isolated cases in the beginning but hopefully users will be able to flash the BIOS and make such cards. Both the Techpowerup.com and Computerbase.de ended up with such a card. It would be interesting to see if any of those card actually ended up on the market and if some of the early adopters were lucky enough.

The big issue is that these sites scored much better results than what people will get with 960 shader enabled "normal" and regular Radeon HD 6850 card.

In any case, we'll see if these are just isolated cases or such cards actually did went to channel. You can check out the Techpowerup review here, while ComputerBase.de review is here.

Update: Wizzard from Techpowerup told us that although they did indeed receive the HD 6850 with 1120 shaders, the results in benchmark are achieved with a card that has 960 of them. Just to be clear, the results over at Techpowerup show the regular HD 6850 and not the one with 1120 shaders.

My first thoughts on this, is are they 'ringer' cards.

Mine too. Or possibly, an honest error. Would be cool if the retail cards could be flashed to 6870's.

Just an additional thought. Wouldn't you think that reviewers would check the specs before they review it?

Honest error is most likely, since this is now the third time it's happened (the other two were cards which performed lower than they should, but both had incorrect shader numbers, the 4830 and 5770 as already mentioned).

Really, it should be AMD/AIB partners who should be checking the specs before they send the cards out. Reviewers probably expect their cards to be what is going to be hitting the market so it might not be obvious to think "oh, this card might be clocked wrong or have the wrong number of shaders".
