I am looking to purchase a printer that can output 11 x 17 paper (ledger, tabloid, b-size). It would preferrably be a laser printer, but inkjet isn't out of the question. I'm trying to keep it around $700 max. I'm also not opposed to quality refurbs with warranties. What brand/model can you guys recommend or advise me to stay away from? I appreciate any assistance.

Canon has always made "wide" versions of selected color inkjet models, easily inside your budget. Look for four-digit models of their S and i series.

I've used both Epson's (Stylus 1160) and HP's (1120?) large format inket printers. The Epsons seem to produce nicer images; the HP's print speed is faster.

Both are fairly reliable... used them mostly for printing 11x17 gantt charts during projects.

If you're planning on printing photographic quality, I'd go w/ a Canon (I use an i900d for photos). For business grafx, I'd go with whatever's faster/cheaper.

There was an industrial type inkjet refurb on the hp site for only $250. I don't remember the model no. or know the warranty status on it, but I do know it has a parallel port as well as USB and can work with DOS as will as Win, Apple and Linux as that is what I was looking for at the time (just a few days ago).

Canon i9900 or Epson Stylus 2200.

Absolutely no way you'll get a laser printer with that budget.
