Well, Close . . .

<DallasNews>

Up to 500,000 marchers converge on downtown

At a police security briefing that ended about 3:15 p.m., Dallas police Chief David Kunkle reported that no one had been arrested and no noteworthy offenses had been committed amid the crowd that was widely estimated at 100,000.

Speculation put the crowd at up to 500,000, although police had no comment on that number.

. . . and it's not even lettuce season.

Shortly after noon, police intelligence officers spied about 10 members of the Girls Gone Wild video crew, presumably looking for subject matter. No word if they found any.

These estimates crack me up. The population of Dallas is only 1.1 million. So ~50% of the population came out to the protest?

Better than that - nearly 5%, 1/20 of all the Illegal Immigrants in this sector of the Universal Parsec attended.

Try adding the population from Denton, Tarrant, and Dallas counties. That is closer to the real population of DFW. If you knew the area you would realize that actual dallas is almost barren.
Not many people live there compared to how many that work there. Its a commuter area. Most of us live in the massive suburb sprawl.

I live here and I did not even know this was happening today!

If we had a decent President, he would have the Army round them up, and throw them back acroos the border!

How do we know they were illegal immigrants? They aren't the only ones protesting, you know. Although I HAVE noticed that there seems to be an increasingly used assumption that if a person is from Mexico, they must be illegal. The loudest voices against illegal immigrant seem to use "Mexican" and "illegal" interchangably, despite the fact that most Mexican immigrants are in fact here legally. You wouldn't be one of those, would you militant anti-illegal guy?

I would detain everyone at the protest, nobody would leave, untill their status was determined.

I'm fairly certain that would be all kinds of illegal. You can't just "detain" peaceful demonstrators because of racial profiling, at least not under any laws I'm aware of.

Would there be anything wrong with randomly choosing individuals from the crowd and asking for their identification?

Legality is likely Moot. Peaceful would likely turn to Violent causing an uproar no Police force could hold back.

Apparently the protests extended to a number of cities. Text

I've also heard that one is planned locally here in the DC area today.

Actually, in stark contrast to what I saw of the LA area demonstrations from a couple weeks ago, there were a lot of American flags being waved.

That being said, it's also pretty obvious that there were many illegals in attendance, as a good number of the banners and signs being held up stating things like "We want to be legal", "We pay taxes too", and so forth.

While the more abundant show of American patriotism is very nice to see, we'll have to wait and find out today if it was an isolated occurrance or not.

1.1 in 2000 about 1.2 in 2004.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is comprised of 7 of the top 10 most populous cities in Texas. That is just over 6 million. That does not include nearly 1 million illegals that live in the area.

The estimate was that just over half of the crowd was made up of illegals. Since the citizens are still not being allowed to protest and since the illegals are getting free transportation to the protest it seems as if the very liberal Government of Dallas supports illegals more than it's citizens. Guess we shouldn't be surprised.

What taxes exactly do they pay? Sales tax maybe. The problem of illegal immigrants has mushroomed into a serious problem because of our government's inaction in addressing the problem. Illegal immigrants have and are a cost saving workforce for the nation's agriculture business. If immigrants were required to either hava green card or social security card to be able to work or get any type of government benefits the problem would be greatly diminished. Build a fence across the Mexico border regardless of the cost before it's too late.

OK, so there are maybe 40 - 50 that have the 'documentation' for legal immigration, that leaves 499,948 . . . . .

It wouldn't be racial profiling. Rather, it would be based on the context of the demonstration, giving the police and INS probable cause to believe that a great many illegals might be present.
