11/01/11 Steam Midweek Madness: Bastion 50% off

Man you're fast🙂 Pretty well liked game.

The soundtrack is also 50% off for $4.99 but hard to see getting that.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

You're not taking any more of my money, Steam, for the time being. Stop doing this to me.

Man you're fast🙂 Pretty well liked game.

hehe thanks 😀
I heard it is a good game, haven't tried the demo yet myself but it looks neat, but I have a feeling we will see it for $5 during either the black friday or holiday sale

This game is worth twice the original price, I got the game and the soundtrack gladly.

If a 10 hour indie game could ever get a nod, this would be a GOTY nominee. Those of you pinching pennies are doing yourselves a disservice.

Marked for home because I have no idea what type of game this even is.

Think 2D Zelda kind of set in a Borderlands/Fallout 3 type of environment narrated by a younger, more rugged Morgan Freeman with amazing music. But with more fluid combat.

I wonder if any of my friends have birthdays coming up, this would be an awesome gift... maybe save it for Christmas 😀

Paid full price for this game at launch, don't regret it a bit. I can't endorse this game enough, it is one of the most creative and engrossing games I've played in years. Most of which is owing to the amazing narration and the soundtrack but the game itself is also fun.

The only bummer about this game is that you cannot redo a stage without restarting it. Sometimes it's not a problem, but at some points, if you're not quick enough, you can permanently miss out on a secret because it's simply not possible to get to it anymore. I don't want to go into too much detail to avoid cluing in some of the people that haven't played it yet. 😛

The more fun part of the game is probably the gauntlets and especially when you turn certain gods on. Although, you need to be wary about turning some of them on. I turned on the one where enemies "retaliate" upon death (drop a small bomb sort of thing), and I went into the stage with the crocodile thing. At the beginning of that stage, there's a huge flock of birds... yeah... they dropped a lot of bombs when I killed them! But anyway... the challenges are in a round fashion where you fight a certain set of mobs for about... 20 rounds. I think you get one death and they'll randomly give you some potions to replenish your stock.

I think my favorite weapons are... the flamethrower, and I can't remember which ranged weapon I typically use. Most weapons are kind of junky though as almost every weapon has a gimmick, but the gimmick is usually not worth the drawback. The flamethrower is a little gimmicky, but it's ability to ignore heavy armor is just so nice!

Challenge modes can be a bit of a pain. It took me quite a few times to do the Breaker Bow challenge simply because you have to get the Power Shot done properly or else you won't destroy the items in 5 shots. Well, that's unless you cheat and upgrade your bow's damage, which means you can just fire normal shots. 😛 The problem with the Power Shot is that the damage of it starts at 30, so if you release right when you start to blink white, you will only deal 30 damage to the things that have 31 health... bummer!

I actually found the opposite with the Challenges, I thought they were too easy. The only one I had trouble with was the million squirts with the machete. The breaker bow can be done on the first try unupgraded quite easily once you get the timing down on the power shots.

Looks like a fun game. Too bad I have way too much to play now and those tasty holiday sales are coming up. Got to prep my wallet for major action. 🙂

I think the problem that I had is that I upgraded the bow to allow it to draw faster, which I'm not 100% sure, but I think gives you a smaller power shot window? All I know is that the window only lasts about .5-1s and even though the game says you can stop your "cast", I could never get it to work. So a single poorly timed shot meant I had to restart.

The War Machete one was definitely a pain, but it's much, much easier once you realize that the secret is
to run directly to the middle and kill as many of them as you can while they spawn
. You don't need any crazy upgrades to do that.

I think there are only two that I haven't beaten yet. I think I've only got 2/3 prizes on the shield and lance one. The Repeater one was kind of fun though... so many times I would end up about 1-2 seconds off. 😛

Heard a lot of good things about this game. I gotta try the demo tonight. Most likely I will picking this up.

I enjoyed the demo, but I don't see much replay value, it is said to be quite short, and I think I would get bored quickly--nothing really new other than a "clever narrator."

I will wait for $5.

You realize at this point you be quibblin' over less than tree fiddy?

this shit adds up.

And I already know it is something that will likely bore me before I finish, and will, essentially, leave me empty and dull if I complete it.

fuck...why do I eve play games? lol.

While the sale's going on, the entire dev team of Bastion is doing a huge Q&A session over at Reddit.com. There you can see some comments/criticisms from people who have played the game and responses from the developers.

"SG_Logan logs on reddit. Sees a comment. Posts his approval."

Haha... after you play Bastion, it's much more amusing. 😛 Although, it lacks a good little quip at the end. Something like, "Not that it was needed among these folk."

You also might be wondering why so many people are gushing over the soundtrack. Simply put, the audio in Bastion is fantastically orgasmic (eargasmic?). Here's a sample of one of the songs. It's pretty amazing.

It's a good soundtrack. I like the fight music! 😀
