10Mbit OPTICAL in California or elsewhere!???

A friend of mine tells me that his brother (who lives in california) heard that there are some ISPs installing optical lines in residences in california. Anyone know about this? Can anyone verify and/or send me a link so I can find out more, and where exactly this is located? He said it was only like $100/mo or something... someone please verify!

Yes I have it. It's from a company called astound and they are only available in two places in the US as far as I know. They basically have a fiber backbone and then use cable to the house. They used to offer 5mb downloads and 256kb upload but are changing it soon to 3mb

no. Its something different then. Its supposed to be 10Mbit up and 10Mbit down. I need someone to verify. Not sure where in CA this is supposed to be.

Yes it is real. They have in north Sacramento from a company called winfirst. And yes it is 10 up and down. It is about $100 but you also get digial cable and phone. But the company recently went bankrupt so they won't be expanding.
