Man, there are alot of low mileage, mid 90s Q45s out there for under 10 thousand. Why is that? I saw a couple which had around 60K miles and still under 10 grand. Seems like a good deal.

Because they've updated the body style twice since then?

I'm sure they're still great cars though

new Q45

These things run 50K new, that's a 40K hit for 5-8 years. That's terrible. I wonder if parts are horribly expensive.

Overview of 91-96 models

Looks like in the mid 90's common problems are:

Engine misfire: If the idle quality gradually deteriorates, feeling like the idle is set too low, a revised ECM (computer) should solve the problem. (1994-95)

Engine stalling: Stalling during coast-down idling is due to a loose connection at the air flow meter. (1990-96)

Brakes: To fix brake judder and/or a groaning noise when coming to a stop, new front brake pads were developed. (1990-94)

Terrible milage, that review says 16mpg even with heavy freeway miles, and premium gas too.

Yeah I'd be tempted too save for that gas milage. At .20/gallon more than my civic's regular fuel, and consuming 2.5 times as much, it'd be a hefty jump in cost of gas.

Yeah that'd triple your gas bill per month, as it would for me, since I also drive a econobox. Gas is 100 a month for my current car, it would suck for it to suddenly jump to 300, hahaha.

Seems like a good weekend/social (coughdatescough) car though.

Yeah. it's someone else's resale loss. Your gain.
These are reliable fast cars. 0-60 in mid 5's I think.
I was tempted to get one. I think I would rather get a J30. It's funny how the resale on J30 is higher than Q45 even though it was a lower end model.

Has anyone tried to do an oil change on one of these things? Because I have. You need a couple of mirrors just to see the oil filter. Three elbows just to touch it. I think the one I worked on was a 94 or 95. Impossible.

I think Infinity had tons of them on lease programs when times were slow for them(Nissan) during the mid-90s and now they're all coming back and must be sold or auctioned off somehow.

U don't save on insurance by switching to mercede's unless you were driving a ferrari or porsche!

The best car I have ever owned was a 94 Infiniti Q45. It was Obsidian Black with a Camel Leather interior. MSPR was about $50K. If you can grab such a car with low mileage, for under $10K, by all means do it! :)

Looks like a good deal to me. The funny thing is MotorTrend has consistently rated the Q45 higher then the LS400/430 but the Lexus is far more popular in the marketplace. I guess those baby boomers like isolation chambers more then cars that are actually fun to drive.

This guy is for sale in town. 53,000 miles, $8850. Not too shabby!

I'd HATE to see repair costs though. UHG!!!

Q45 is called "president" in Japan

good price but cannot justify its gas consumption...

The first gens Q45s are the one to buy. Don't buy the later gens from '96-'2000. They are slower and more blander.

The first gens <and I think second gens> were underratted from the factory <Infinti rated them at 290hp, but from what I have read, they make more than 300hp>. They are extremely fast and handle damn well for a car of that size.

However they have a lot of techno-goodies which will probably go wrong. They were the first ones to have a fully active suspension <expensive to replace/repair>. The engine is pretty rock solid though. Try to get a warranty if you buy one.

On that note, the older and rare M30s <yes M not J> had a sensor on the front of the car that would monitor the road ahead and change the suspension dampers accordingly. I think it was more of a gimmick than anythign.

I just recently bought a '94 Q45 (112k miles) for 5500. Awesome car. Very powerful, rides like a dream, plenty of cool features. But a quote on progressive has me at $800/ 6 months for bare minimal coverage. And fuel economy definitely isn't great.

Still, I'd say it's worth it- I love driving this car.
