Researchers with the Internet2 project, a consortium of more than 140 universities working with companies like Cisco, IBM and Qwest, have a first generation 10 Gbps "public" network up and running. Though not yet available for commercial use, the "Abilene" network is already running advanced teleconferencing, distance learning and other applications for researchers that are part of the project. InternetWeek looks at what many believe the Internet will look like in five years:

btw this is that internet2 stuff that has been talked about quite a bit, might want to throw that in the title, good stuff if it comes true.

Low latency multiplayer. Fast pr0n. AT Forums loading in a timely manner. It's all good. Probably cost an arm and a leg though. Let's just hope .NET is only a small part of it not ALL of it.
