If I had one of these lying around I would give it away fujitsu drives do suck maybe $10 is the right amount to pay for apossibly used udma 33 if even that drive.

Some people on StorageReview.com's forums think Fujitsu is great... Be sure to research before accepting any post as gospel :). I actually don't even own a Fujitsu drive but...

Re: Maxtor RMA

They're about on par with IBM in terms of quality, and drive failure rates, but at least you can RMA almost any drive under the sun with them.

Maxtor RMA: Direct Link

If you get the chance to actually speak to someone through the 1-800-2Maxtor (1-800-262-9867) line, make sure to emphasize your need for a Maxtor replacement, not Quantum.

I have had the unfortunate experience of owning (4) Fujitsu brand drives, ranging from 4-10+ GB.

Each of them failed within a year. (Fujitsu? RMA? Us?!?!?)

The newer Fujitsus might be a higher quality build, but the old models could beat an Oreck in terms of sheer suckage.

interesting... I owned an 8gig fujitsu that I just recently sold, but prior to that I went through 2 maxtors (20, 30gb) and 1 wd (30gb 7200) had those RMAed... the fujitsu has been solid for me! The others apparently did not like my high FSBs! It's no speed demon, but...

I just got one for a dead drive in my PC. It was supposed to be used, but it did not look that way to me.

It was a Fujitsu and I know squat about them, but it runs windows 98.

Why would you have ordered a 10gb refurb drive for $54 when you could have ordered a new 20gb 7200 rpm Maxtor for $70 ($30 after MIR) from Office Depot last week????

I have to concur. How is this a hot deal? Besides the 20gb 7200 maxtor, How about:

Maxtor 40gb 5400 rpm @ Office Depot this week

$119.95 PM to Compusa or Best Buy for
$99.95 Less $30 off $100 coupon
$69.95 Less $40 MIR

$29.95 + taxes with free OD delivery!

Or the 40gb 7200 at OD ~ $70
Or the 100gb 7200 at Sam's ~ $135 shipped (less with in store pick up)
etc....

No, I am NOT thread crapping. Just many superior deals available, Imho :)

Refurb 10 gb for $54! I'd have to disagree about the luke warm part. This is freezing cold.

<< just dont get quantum fireballs... >>

LOL... I've had a 30gb Quantum Fireball LM30 (I think) for a year or so and it's been rock solid. Now you have a chance of getting a Quantum when you buy Maxtor because of the merger...

The problem is that if you ask every anandtecher someone is going to have had a hard drive fail of any particular brand. Plus some of these manufacturers have horrible past quality but are decent today... That's why StorageReview seems to have good info...

Oh, and I didn't realize this was a refurb. Personally I'd never buy a refurbed hard drive and the extra 10gb for the Maxtor is worth the extra $$$ to me but each to his own...

First of all

YOU ALL SUCK!!!

I do not work for PC Liquidator and I will never post in here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you ignorant people, fujitsu has the best warranty in the entire world. They dont ask for any information for an RMA or do they care when you got the drive. All they care is that the drive is within the time frame of manufacturer. They dont even care what is wrong with the drive.

Thier website for online RMA is www.fcpa.com

Morons!

Beldar, calm down. Consume mass quantities of Beer, Chips, & Fried chicken embryos & you will feel better.

Welcome to Anandtech forums. I have found that use of these forums can sometimes require a thick skin.:)
You'll get used to it, & will probably even come to relish it. It's being "part of the family", heheh.

Seriously, when you do hit upon a truely Hot Deal, everyone here will love you for it. Just keep tryin'.

Say Hi to Primat & Connie for me.:D

true, people are looking for a very good deal and this one just isn't so hot. YOu can get a 20gig for a little more say 61
link
I sold my 17gig at ebay for even less then 54 bucks so I had to get rid of it because this drive make noise and I can't stand it. I need something that don't make any noise :)

Uhh... Did you read my post? I said to do proper research instead of listening to anecdotal (yeah, I can't spell) evidence. That's all I'm saying. No drive is 100% perfect so it's true that every drive will fail. It's just that some fail more than others so there is the suckage factor.
