I just got 2x diamond plus 8 30gbs to do some raiding on my new nforce2 board about 2 weeks ago and today i started playing with them... After these 2 hds get detected by the raid bios (on board promise SATA raid), a high pitched sqeeky noise appears.

Does this means I need an RMA?

I use a MSI mobo that has a promise raid controller that has 1 regular ATA connector and 2 SATAs... could it be something to do with the connection because I am using 1 of the drives regularly while one is on a converter (although the manual said this was perfectly fine setup for raiding)....

I just got these brand new from the store so i'm wondering how these can be messed up so fast...

What shall i do?!?! 😕

Well, first thing to do would be determine if the noise is coming from one or both of the drives, or if it's actually the motherboard making the noise, or something else entirely. Connect one drive at a time, let them be detected, see exactly when the noise starts. Try with neither drive connected to make sure it's not something else.

The converter should make no difference, and even if it did, the result would be failure of the drive to work on the controller, not a high pitched noise from the drive.

A very small percentage of drives ARE defective right out of the box. The general rule is a drive will either fail immediately, or last a very long time before failing.
