1090T downclocking not working.

I've recently gotten a 1090T and M4M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3 and I've settled my overclock at 4ghz CPU and 2800mhz northbridge (solid 7 in cinebench) but I now have another problem I can't seem to fix, I don't see the point in keeping my energy saving BIOS options all off as I don't need that high of a clock all of the time, only 30-50% of my computer usage is intensive (games, live streaming and such) and the rest is just simple web browsing and other general computer'y things, so having it downclock to save on power/heat is definitely preferred.

Here's where my problem comes in, enabling C1E and CoolnQuiet in the BIOS does nothing, my clock/multiplier stays at a solid 4ghz (20x200) so after asking around I've heard of a program called PhenomMsrTweaker which allows you to set a custom profile, after messing with it a bit I just can't get it to work, it either does nothing, or (what it's doing at the minute) it doesn't upclock even under 100% load (prime95/cinebench), it's a little irritating as having it on 4ghz 24/7 just isn't needed for my computer use.

Any help is greatly appreciated, here's a picture of my two phases in PhenomMsrTweaker, the VID is set to as close or slightly under what the voltage is set in the BIOS, thanks!

P.S, I'd much rather rely on C1E/CoolnQuiet for my downclocking and idle speeds as I just feel more trusting of the hardware than random programs, so if I can fix that, it'd definitely be preferred.

Did you click the "Enable Custom Cool 'n Quiet" in the service tab of PhenomMsrTweaker while also disabling CnQ from the BIOS?

Also, the reason the board's Cool 'n Quiet isn't working is becasue you have the multiplier above 18x. It's a fairly crappy limitation.

Enable that option within PhenomMsrTweaker. That should make the changing of clockspeed and voltage automatic. It's always work for me with my various K10 systems.

Okie doke I enabled it, should I change the settings within at all? I'm currently using the "high performance TAB"

And thanks for the help Klown, just out of curiosity, what is your NB & CPU volts set at for your overclock? Off-topic a bit, mines at 1.43v @ 4ghz, NB @ 1.325v, feels a bit high.

I use the "balance" setting, so I don't know if your settings with "Performance" will work. It should though. As for changing the other settings, you should do some testing to find out what works best for you. The stock settings should work well anyways. I do prefer "aggressive up" as it takes the CPU straight to top speed when you past the threshold and does help with games and other task that vary the CPU usage.

As for my CPU,1.52v for the CPU, but with V-droop it's more like 1.49v. The NB-IMC is at 1.45v, if I only ran two sticks I could drop it to 1.38v at the same speed.

ahh I see, mines not too bad then.
And yes enabling the custom thing works perfectly, it's downclocking as it should and under prime95 ramps back to 4ghz, thanks for the help mate, greatly appreciated.

One other thing, if in the program I go into "Service" and click "Make custom p-state settings permanent" and hit "update", will this keep these settings forever without me having to load PhenomMsrTweaker on boot everytime?

Yep, as long as you let the service boot up automatically(which it will as long as you don't manually stop it with Services.exe or MSConfig) you'll never have to fiddle with it again unless you want to make changes.

Fantastic, now I just need to figure out why going from my e8200 to a 1090T didn't change my FPS in 90% of games with CPU throttling my 6870, maybe another thread is in order!
Thanks again Klown, massive help, have a good week mate.
