Roughly how much do you make per year? I'm especially interested in self employed consultants. I'm trying to figure how just how underpaid I am. ;)
I basically define systems admins the same way salary.com does:
Systems Administrator
Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area with at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a project leader or manager.

RDU area median is $58,593. Which becomes $81,714 after benifits/bonuses are added.

What's so funny? :p
Base salary $58,593 72%
Bonuses $1,094 1%
Social Security $4,566 6%
401k/403b $2,161 3%
Disability $1,456 2%
Healthcare $5,390 7%
Pension $1,934 2%
Time off $6,520 8%
Total $81,714 100%

US National Average (median) is $59,634.

Now THIS is funny:
Surfer - Web (IT -- All)
Visits multiple websites to gather information. Reviews and catalogues websites according to established guidelines. Requires a high school diploma with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a manager.

Salary.com is the laughing stock of most business managers.

Meaning, you take a printoff of a salary report for your job and region from Salary.com and give it to your boss and he just laughs at you.

Heh... and when they catch their breath they say "You're Fired." :Q ;)

With that being said are there any more accurate sites similar to salary.com? I've looked at the big book (of local salary survey results) the HR department has as well to see what I'd be making if I was an employee.
What about the MCP Salary Survey? It laughed at too?

Good point. I guess me working cheap is better than me not working at all huh?
Maybe one day I'll get hired and get some benefits along with the slightly higher pay.

I make $12/hour. Don't really have a well-defined job title. It's a mish-mash of webmaster and tech support. Gotta love working for a small company...
