So, I've sold my 1080TI and put back ATI 5850.

I remember I got it around Mass Effect release, which makes it ~13 yo.

The card is like 3/5 of 1080 Ti in size. Good times.

It is 11 years old card. But yes that was one of the best generations of card from AMD. I had a 5450 which was my first graphics card. I was very happy that I could finally play new games on it. Good times indeed.

I actually have a ATI 5850 1GB (stock cooler... no mining) running in a Core i7-920 system, I was thinking of sticking a ASUS 7870 2GB Direct CU II in there but it only runs XP. Runs older games just peachy which is all I wanted.

I have a problem getting rid of older hardware, quite a bit I give away but some I just keep.

I find the integrated graphics useful for this situation. It lets you still use the PC and play some old games while waiting for a new card. Sometimes these really old cards have driver issues today, even though they are fast enough for those games.

I had good times with my 5870s. Same with my unlocked 6950s!

it was released on Sep 2009. i had a PowerColor 5850 flashed with a 5870 bios (basically just voltage and frequency changes), ran like a champ for years.

The 5000 series was a really good release for AMD. Full stack of cards, performance and power consumption were all spot on. I only had a lowly Power Color 5750, but it served me well. Played lots of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 with it.

I think AMD should have reserved the RX 5000 series for RDNA2 cards. As a sort of return to form.
