I am thinking of picking up one of those acer 23" monitors for 1080p action. Is there a big difference from resolution changes in games and in win 7? My current monitor is a samsung 22". Will my gaming framerate decrease drastically from making the jump to 1080p?

Same resolution but on a 7 year old 19 inch dell crt....have a hard time wanting to let this go cause the blacks are very solid and the picture is clean especially in games like BF3.

Anything over a 21.5 inch for me is a bit overwhelming and i find my eyes focus to much all over especially in fps and i can't game on my 37 inch t.v cause of this anymore.

Performance for you will drop of course but how much might depend on the game.

Bah, I use a 25.5in 1920x1200 and it's a beauty, I've seen many of my anti-PC friends buy small TN crap and laugh at the size and inferior image quality.
Frame hit from 1600-1900 is modest at best.

The frame hit would probably be pretty small. The biggest benefit in games would be that you would have a bigger FOV due to the change in aspect ratio
