1080i vs 1080p

I was wondering how big of a difference between the two resolutions there is if you don't compare them side by side?

Probably posted a lot here and from what I've read it's almost impossible... especially for HD DVDs.

Also, don't know if it matters, but OTA HD is all 720p or 1808i.
