Hi all, I've got a 4790k that can be oc to 4.8ghz.
if I get 1080 ti, will the CPU bottleneck it at 4k?

No. At 4k resolution, a CPU upgrade from your current one would gain you practically nothing.

You have one of the fastest gaming CPU's available and you're worried about bottlenecking? Even if there was a bottleneck, there's no substantially faster CPU that you could upgrade it to, at least for as long as games aren't heavily threaded to benefit from 8-core CPU's. So there's nothing you could do even if there was a bottleneck - you would just have to live with it until tech caught up with your fps requirements.

The real only bottleneck would be at a resolution of 1920x1080 or lower. At those lower resolutions, you MIGHT see a 10% improvement, if that, in a few select games by upgrading to an overclocked 7700.

Now 640x480 or 800x600 is a different story. :)

What about my 5820k (not overclocked)

I just upgraded from a 2500k at 4.5GHz for 4k gaming to a r7 1700. Noticeably smoother. Not FPS increases really just MUCH smoother.

I'll have a medley of questions to post in a new thread, as they pertain to "topping off" my Skylake system.
