1080 GTX gets crazy hot

Just got an Asus STRIX 1080. I noticed the fans don't kick up when gaming, sounds the same as idle which is pretty quiet. After around 30 minutes I touched the case panel and it nearly burnt my hand. Shouldn't the GPU fans increase?

It sounds like the fans are not kicking in when they are supposed to.

Make sure the temperature auto checks are enabled so the fans will increase in the gpu settings depending on the version of the gpu as each are a bit different.

If you use Asus GPU Tweak II it should be in there I believe and you may need to manually set the fan speed to increase if the auto detect does not work when you start gaming.

I got it settled. It's a node 202 case so it's really small but added a couple of Xigmatek 120mm case fans and it's now it's down to 72 C max when gaming. Initially was concerned because I couldn't hear the fans spinning up but apparently they are, they just needed more air feed...guess I"m used to my previous 970 which got really loud when it wound up.

Dang, no wonder it was getting so hot. It's surprising that you were even able to fit a 1080 Strix into that little Node 202 Mini-ITX case!
