I want to build a decent system for around $1000. My budget items are FIRM, I do not want to go over each given amount, so please bear it in mind when making suggestions....Here is about what I want and my budget for each item, have fun window shopping for me, and thanks in advanace!

Mobo - $150 Must have onboard sound, LAN and SATA Raid capability.

CPU - $150 AMD 64 X2 Retail if possible

GPU- $200 Must be capable of modern (not necessarily the newest) games at reasonable framerates

MEM - $200 DDR2 2GB If possible, but no less than 1.5GB

Case - $100 With Adequate PSU

HDDs - $200 At least 200GB each and SATA with 5 year Warrantee (prefer WD, Seagate)

DVD Burner - $75 2Sheep if possible speed irrelavent

Please use Newegg for my shopping since I swear by them and am loyal to the core, unless you have a really good alternative with customer service to equal or surpass Newegg.....Can I build a nice box with this money? I can't spend more than $1075 and am not willing to canibalize my current boxes to save on one component to up the budget for another......Again, Thanks for your help and suggestions!

P.S. The monitor is going to be a small flat screen HDTV so please bear it in mind in selecting a vidcard that will hook up to it. The TV is not in the $1075 budget and I am willing to spend up to $300 on it so suggestions there would be appreciated too.

I alway find it funny when people do this. If you just scan past a few day worth of threads, there will be plenty of hardware suggestions. Just go to the egg and start adding stuff to the cart. If you're over on your budget, cut back on the extras.

i'd lower your GPU budget by 50 and increase your cpu budget by 50 and get a c2d. and you can get a 500 gig hd for $130 these days. yeah, just go to newegg and start tweaking.

I'm and oldschool AMD fan, but Intels C2D lineup is currently unbeatable in this price range. I would also throw in a TV tuner card and speakers and go with a regular LCD monitor as opposed to a small TV, much better resolution and a better price. You can pick up a 20" or 22" widescreen monitor for under $300

Looks okay... I would change the motherboard to the more capable Biostar TForce P965, the video card to the better performing X1950Pro and the RAM to something that will actually OC... perhaps something along the lines of this, which will reach DDR2 900.

That's bad.

CPU, video card, RAM, and motherboard should all be changed.

Looks good to me!

I wouldn't go with the "open box" motherboard personally, but if you don't mind no manual, cables, backplate, etc... it's probably OK.

If you have a $1075 budget, and your parts do not include a C2D and a 320MB 8800 GTS, you fvcked up. :D

Mobo
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017
$108

CPU
Intel C2D E6300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115005
$183

GPU
320MB 8800 GTS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130082
$280

MEM
Quant = 2 1GB ST DDR2 667
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820609085
$128

Case
Some $50 case (buyer preference)

PSU
Enermax Liberty 500W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817194003
$110

HDDs
Quant 2 Seagate 250GB SATA II
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148142
$140

DVD Burner
Lite-On 18X
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106042
$30

That is $1029 plus shipping. Get a nicer case if you have a few more bucks left over. But do NOT settle for an AMD cpu, nor any video card less than an 8800 GTS.

I'd go for the following: S3 or DS3 mobo, e6300, 320MB 8800 GTS, some $50 case (your choice), Corsair 520W PSU, Lite-on 20x, and 2x320gb Seagate 7200.10 (Newegg has those on sale for $85 shipped after coupon today I believe.) Those WD aren't bad either, but smaller and cheaper. I'm not sure about the memory.

Do your own damn research or go Dell. :|

Seriously. Do the fvcking legwork yourself. Read some goddamn critics reviews, user reviews, articles, forum threads, and buy whatever fits into your budget. Looking for the best deal? Search the Hot Deals forum, For Sale/Trade forum, Pricegrabber.com and Froogle.com, Fatwallet and Slickdeals, etc.

That's great you want to build a system. Instead of us holding your hand during the entire process, do some reading and become educated. Troubleshoot your build through trial and error.

Or just buy from Dell.

When I was building my system it was via reading umpteen "help me with a new rig threads" that pointed me in a couple of good directions.

I think that's why these forums are here.

There is a difference between someone posting a "look over my components to see if they're compatible" thread and a "I'm too lazy to do some reading so tell me exactly what to buy" thread.

I think the latter is a little insulting. Like we're a pack of dogs just waiting for someone to toss us a bone so we have the privilege of configuring their next computer for them.

At least come at us with a components list so we can critique it. Then we know you at least tried to do a little legwork on your part.

thats a good amd build...but if you have at least 1k to spend on a system, you should go core 2 duo for sure. yes, i know i JUST upgraded to amd, but it was within my budget/it was all i could spend.

E4300 $170
MSI P6N Platinum $165
Hitachi 500GB HD or 2x200GB HDs $140
Lian-Li PC60USB $110
Enermax Noisetaker 420W $60
EVGA 8800GTS 320MB $280
Supertalent 2x 1GB DDR2 667 (supposedly you can run this 5-5-5-15 @ DDR2 800 which is decent)

total $1051, theres $20 MIR available on the EVGA. Personally I wouldnt spend so much on a graphics card but I only dabble in games. If you feel the same you could get some nicer RAM or an E6400 or something. Also if you want to save some money, get your PSU or VGA card on ebay.

good luck
