I dont mean to sound mean, but you are living under their roof, so live by their rules, move out, or deal with it

Move out and if you can't do that then too bad. It's their house, their rules.

This comes from a father of four.

Not really much you can do if they don't feel like changing. You either play by their rules or life will be hell for all of you. You will lose that battle.

If you can afford to move out, do it - Life on your own is MUCH better than living with your parents.

If you can't afford it, play nice for now & leave when you can afford it.

Sounds like you already know what your options are... moving out, or moving to your dad. You're 18, so i really don't see the point in moving to your dad... unless there's a school there that interest you.

I'd count yourself lucky that they haven't kicked you out yet. Their house, their rules.

If you can, you could try to get a job and make enough for rent, food, clothing. Are you in college?

suck it up my friend. take some time to compute how much rent, food, and utility bills would be if you lived by yourself. if you can afford it, move out. if not, suck it up.

Yup. It is their house, and now that you are 18 they can kick you out if you want.

So your choices are live with it or move out.

not in college, just finished a tech school course on 'computer electronics'.

moving in with my dad would be completely different, i would do it in a heartbeat, but im not sure about any jobs up there.

can't really afford to live on my own, if i did, i would have just enough to pay the bills.

you dont think some of these rules are ridicoulous?? given my age??

My parents tried to charge me $400 a month starting LONG before I was 18.

Pissed me off to no end, I wasn't old enough to leave (couldn't sign a lease) so they had me over the proverbial barrel.

Doesn't matter, they have the right to make whatever rules they like.

Not at all. You don't seem to get it. It's not your house. It's their house. Therefore, they make the rules.

Actually the only thing I find unreasonable is parents dictacting where or when you can get a job. Parents like to comment on the child's career but they have no reason to tell you where or when you can't work.

Get any job you can, or can be proud of, even if for part-time and you can start to move out of their home and into a more responsible lifestyle.

I'm pretty sure you could find a job in NY dude.

Your parents seem to have pretty ridiculous rules. Actually, they aren't far from the rules my parents had for me. They didn't soften the rules until the summer before I went to college. It sucks, and parents who do that are retarded, but you gotta live with it.

given your age, I would assume you would know that the world is full of BS rules and laws, and you have to deal with them....in your case you can change the rules by moving out

It looks like just a few minor rules there. Nothing serious - that would drastically affect your life. So are you risking losing your family forever over a few minor restrictions? Yes those restrictions are silly, and you are old enough to be fine without them. But as long as they aren't horrible, then deal with it. Things that would be serious would look like this:
1) No computers in the house. In fact, no electronics. This could seriously harm your school performance.
2) Bedtime at 9 pm. In fact no going out on dates or with friends.
3) Actually your #3 is a positive to me - at least they care about you.
4) You cannot work at all (or you must work a 40 hour week to support the family in addition to going to school so you have no free time at all).
Those would be serious problems.

I'm assuming you'll be going to college in probably a few months if you are already 18. Tough it out. You will enjoy a lifetime of benfits from your family (could be emotional, financial, etc.). But if you just abandon them now, you could risk losing them forever. Trust me when you are 50 you will regret that choice. Or even if you have no emotional attachment to them, you'll be giving up years of birthday/christmas/wedding gifts. Also you could be giving up financial support from them for college, car payments, car insurance, health insurance, etc. That could cost you tens thousands of dollars just over a few months stay of minor rules?

Yeah, that rules are ridiculous, but what can you do? It's their house.

If you can afford to move out, do it - Life on your own is MUCH better than living with your parents.
But it's a whole lot more expensive. Here's my monthly expenses.

House - $935/month (four bedrooms, one bathroom)
Cable - $85/month
Gas - $30-200/month
Electric $60-100/month
Phone $20/month
Alarm $20/month

Split four ways, I pay $287-$340 a month.

Additionally, I have the following personal expenses

Car insurance $358/6 months (if you live with your parents and it's under their name, expect insurance to double)
Cell Phone - $40/month
Gas - $40/month
Food - $100-200/month
CC Bill (other than food) $50-100/month (zero balance)

So about $290-430 a month there.

Mind you, I don't live in a great neighborhood and I eat fairly well. NW Ohio is not exactly expensive to live in, but it's not the cheapest place either.

yeah, i get its 'their house, their rules' deal, but i mean, trying to tell me where i can work is retarded. they should really have no say as far as im concerned. they arent making me pay rent as of yet, but they did my brother like $250 a month. if i had to PAY to live there, i would def. be gone. and well, im not really going to any certain college as of yet, if i do itll just be a community one, and they have those everywhere. so im really leaning towards my dads as of now.
