I saw these shopping at Cosco B&M today. Seems like a good deal for 74min CDR's. I'd buy some but I already have the Kingston and Imations...

Better deal at Buy.com. they have it for $40. use a $10 of $30 for new customers coupon to lower it to $30. Then use the rebate to lower it to $16 after tax and shipping.

I just went through a 25 pack of TDK Certified Plus and over half were coasters (this was with a plextor). the reflective layer was easily peeling off. I was shocked, as TDK has always been a great brand before. I won't waste my time with TDKs anymore.

I heard TDK Certified Plus are different then TDK 100% Certified. The latter one is made in Japan, most like T.Y.

My TDKs are falling apart too. The burner is Plextor, so no more TDks for me too!

Thanh, you are correct, they are different makes. the TDK Certified Plus's that I used were made in USA, at their Georgia facility.

I've now heard back from 4 different people, in this and other forums, about TDKs falling apart.

TDK's made in Japan are Taiyo Yuden's. The one's made in Taiwan are Ritek POS. The one's at Buy.com are the Ritek's.

I use the TDK Taiyo Yuden's exclusivly.

Buy.com would only be a good deal if you were to be certain that you could acquire the Taiyo Yuden TDK's. However, Buy.com seems to have mainly the Ritek versions. Costco seems to carry the TY versions as well as some CompUSAs. I supposed you could talk to a Buy.com CSR and find out if they could guarantee you to get the TY version sent out to you.

These are coming up on a costco in store coupon special in mid February for like $12 after coupon + rebate.... They usually have extra coupons in the store.

Costco coupons are printed on the register when you pay so you have the coupon and copy of the reciept all ready for you.

they might not print the extra coupons, but they have extra coupon booklets that if you go up and tell them that you never received yours (it's happened to me before) they will give one to you, but please be honest.

My local costco usually keeps an extra stack of coupons at each register... If I remeber correctly the start date was Feb 19.

There are two set of coupons that come out with CostCo. One is the passport savings that comes in the little booklet from the mail, these you may be able to fanangle from the CS counters (they hand them out to new subscribers that sign up when the promos happen). The second sets are ones that come out every some weeks when the passports are valid, sometimes they have similar coupons and sometimes they have better ones.

Fumiup is right.

you have to make sure they are made in japan. forget about that 100% certified and certified plus stuff. it used to be that certified plus were taiyo yuden (excellent) and 100% certified were ritek (POS). now, TDKs are all 100% certified. so you have to make sure of where they are made in.

i bought the 100% certified 100pk from costco. they are taiyo yuden according to cdr identifier. (link to program: CDR Identifier)

most of buy.com are made in taiwan, so they are riteks.

here's the link to tdk's rebate (i used this instead of costco's): TDK Rebate

as for the upcoming costco sale, it will only last one week (late feb). that is a discount taken at the register so you can still do the mail-in rebate.

does that answer everybody's questions? :)

<< it used to be that certified plus were taiyo yuden >>

Not really. Certified Plus were TDK made in Georgia. They eventually would outsource some of their 100% Certified to TY and Ritek.

Nowadays? It's changed so fast.
