Just got a pair of OCZ 100GB Vertex LE SSD drives...Put them in a RAID-0 config on my Asus Rampage II Extreme...with very nice results!

That's pretty awesome, do you feel much difference between those and normal hard drivers? :p

I was thinking of getting one of those for my new PC build, but I think I'll wait a little longer and get the Vertex 2 instead. I'm worried about the reliability of these drives.

BTW nice system you got there.

Amazing system you got there!

Are you sure the 1.456V on the 32nm cpu is safe though? 4.5ghz 6-core 12 threaded Core i7 ummmm drool.

Your 4k read speeds seem really slow, <30MB/s. Is that accurate? I'd think your 4k write speeds would be the slowest.

Thanks!! Yes..I thtink it is fine based on what I have read on some other forums...I will be staying under 1.5v....However...I have the itch to go 1.55-1.6..and get a suicide shot at 5.0Ghz!!

I agree...and I do not know why...Must either be firmware or just how the Sandforce controller works...Would love to know why there is such a gap between 4k writes and 4k reads..

I'm curious, why RAID? Isn't there almost no real world speed benefit for most purposes?

also wondering why raid, i bet you will notice absolutely no real world difference in I/O performance between a single SSD or raid-0 ssds.

Also, nice thermaltake, lol

Sequential speed doubles (or close enough), and there are many practical uses for sequential read and write, most notably for editing. The 4k speeds may not show "real world" difference because without RAID it is already so fast the files are loaded before you realize it.

The Sandforce drives have CG onboard, so you don't have to worry about degraded performance over time in RAID. You can increase your drive size by adding additional SSD to the RAID array, and get a nice (noticeable or not) speed bump each time. To me it is very appealing to be able to drop $200 now for a 50GB drive, drop $200 down the road to add another 50GB and run a 100GB RAID-0; then sometime after that pick up another 50GB drive (maybe cheaper by then) and increase to 150GB RAID-0, and so on. I don't have $800 for a 200GB drive right now. Even if performance didn't improve (it does), it is a more affordable way to get into the SSD world.

Those are some glorious numbers.

And wow, what a nice rig you have! :D

So just to clarify, you can put Sandforce drives in RAID 0 with no degradation in performance because of the on-board garbage collection?

Get a RAID card and add a few more drives to keep those cores busy LOL.

LOL!

Way to ruin his party, haha.

I wish i had access to the kinda hardware you do.:D

Well you know if you have cubes you have to feed them. ;)

Just sayin'. ;)

My usage patterns are extremely different than those of PC users.
I guess it's all fun at day's end when we still can count to twenty after we remove our shoes. When something heavy falls you learn to move, quickly! :p

Yatapdong barefoot cards - 129GB each X 4 on a Gem SAS backplane hitched to an Areca 1680ix-24 with 2GB cache+BBU.

That just made my head hurt, lol! :p

NICE - even if I don't know what the hell it is.

I'll get some pix of THIS box in the case thread. Needs to be updated. Pretty boring - no hoses, no leaks, no sparks, no lights, no jet engine fans. Just lots of data moving around. :D

I think it is. It's caused by the stupid Sandforce controller. The same controller is also why it can get the ridiculous write speed.

"Yatapdong barefoot" means Indilinx based. Don't know about other brands, but Patriot TorqX drives show up as these when you jumper them to flash the firmware.
