i also hope we see it soon but i wouldnt get my hopes up.
about 5 years ago i read some articles about the next big thing.... wafer scale memory. the idea was to make huge silicon memories by doing some clever lithography and design that would allow you to make a whole silicon wafer of memory, use the on-wafer logic to find the bad parts and mask them out, then hook up the whole thing like a very fast hard drive.
hundreds of gigabytes for pretty cheap was promised. they had some working prototypes too. nothing yet.
maybe this one will pan out.

Seriously, this CD looks great. I could back up both of my HDs on one disk and have a few MBs leftover too.
 
I've never had any reliability problems with my CD's and DVD's.
Sure I have a bunch of CD's that dont work very well, but that's cause I've treated them like $hit.
