You cannot compare different generations of processors' operating temps. There is no point.

The original poster's temps still are high though, but his voltage is a bit high too. I have a similar set up with an i7 930, same cooler, but I am using 1.24V vs his 1.35V and my idle temps are in the 40's and my max temp is in the low 70's. However, again, the extra voltage will really raise the temp.

930 is a complete new stepping then 920, the C stepping was very very hot. I cant prime 8 threads @ 3.8 without hitting Tmax. HT off seems to buy about 10C and im ok then.

i thought to never go past 1.35 vcore.

I have a Noctua D14 on my 930 and at 1.35 doing LinX at 4ghz will take me into the 80s... I don't see how people can do 1.4 without cooking eggs? I might have bad airflow in my P160... shrug

It's easy to miss something on the 212+, when I applied mine I went through a number of ways to install it that people posted, went with what others said was the best and still missed about a third of the surface (2 lines were recommended, I went with 3). It's OK to pull it once, maybe twice to verify full coverage.

2500k at stock stays below 30 most of the time, eben during my main use of HD playback. Below 40 for gaming and I only have the one fan that came with it, it's a good heat sink just need to be careful on theinstall. I did get a bigger case for this build, my last was an HTPC-esque case (small, cramped) so I decided on something bigger this time.

Guys,

I recently decided to get a new CPU cooler and take my 920 upto 3.6Ghz. I picked up the 212+, second fan (push/pull)and Artic silver 5. Long story short I am hitting over 100c during the RealTemp (prime95) test. This can't be right? Even at stock 2.6Ghz I sit at 41-42c with an ambient temp of 70F.
Well, have you checked dust within the heatsink between the fins?

I had the C0/C1 and that sucker was HOT! Is not fair to compare that to 980x. The hyper 212 is a decent cooler for 29.99. I would try reseating and or apply past on the groove/heat pipes and thin layer on cpu.

Hey, just letting you guys know that I have a Q9550 with a hyper 212+ in a push and pull setup. I have the 2 of the pvm fans, 1 came with the cooler, and 1 I bought extra. I can tell you now, it took like 30 degrees off my stock cooler. I barely reach 49 degrees on prime, stock setting, 51 degrees with Intel burn test. I wrote them down, and on stock I was well around 79 to 81 degrees. This cooler is really awesome. What I did was put a small line across the 3 copper pipes. To get even coverage. I put it on the chip, twisted it abit and try to cover the whole chip, without having excess spill over the sides. I pulled apart to make sure, put alittle bit where it wasnt covered, then button it up. I have it exhaused in a Antec 1200 case, out the back. Temperatures I would never have to worry about again. I idle at 29 to 31 degrees, where the stock heat sink would be around 39 or so..

what was wrong with your post you cannot compare Core2 quads to bloomfield chips when it comes to thermals is correct.

When I went back and reread it, it appeared that I was replying to someone who had compared an i7. So the /facepalm i guess is yesterday. I blame the crazy week I've had.
