$1000 tends to be the 'magic' number for my PC costs.

8 Years ago my first real PC was $1000 , 3-4 years later I picked up an Athlon rig for $1000 a few months after that I began building my own and my first 2 builds were about $1000 ....last month I built my first Athlon 64 rig and it was about $1000.

Granted my first 2 PCs that were pre-builds could have been better had I built them myself but still they were decent PCs in their time.

Now I have a cutting edge PC that will stay that way for a few months and even in a year or less or whenever I decide to upgrade it will still be nice and worth at least 50% of what its worth now.

Thats $500 to my new PC....+ $500 or so and I'll likely have a cutting edge PC again.

$500 a year to stay on top...not bad if you ask me.

I tend to spend way too much on this stuff, but I would say I spend maybe 1K a year on average, sometimes less, sometimes a lot more, just depends.
