I'm sick and tired of my AMD machine. It's slow and it just isn't enough to quench my need for the FASTEST I can afford. Right now I'm completely in the dark about Intel mobo's. It would be really nice if someone could build me their "dream" Intel PC with a $1000 budget. I don't need speakers, monitor, mouse or a keyboard. All I need is a complete tower. GO!

Abit IC7 (Max3 if you want all the features and overclocking) ~125$
P4 3.0 800mhz HT ~ 270$
1gig Corsair/buffalo/good ram ~170$
Radeon 9800(200$, firmware it to pro)
36gb SATA Raptor for boot ~110$
120gb Harddrive for storate ~100$

975$

edit: or, you can cut the raptor and go with a nice soundcard (TBSC, rated better than audigy2 for music, can be had for ~40) and a decent case.

Hey there I just built my own Intel machine for about 1300, but I had to buy an operating system...and I did some case modding...and I set up a RAID. So if you don't need all those, then you can definitely get this for about 1k.

Intel P4 2.6C or P4 2.4C if you want to overclock, I hear the 2.4 is better. ~ 180 for retail
Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard, or Abit IC 7 ~ 120 each
Corsair XMS Ram or Kingston HyperX - PC 3500 (I got a gig) ~ 120 per 512 stick
Hitachi 80 GB SATA 7200 RPM ~ 80 bucks each
Lite on DVDROM - 30 bucks
Lite on DVD Burner - 80 bucks (that was a special you aren't gonna find that...retail is normally 130)
Sound Blaster Audigy
Antec Lanboy (I suggest the super lanboy if you want to install more than 1 HDD...cuz my lanboy is really cramped I had to drill more holes in the 3.25 drive bay to get my HDDs and HDD coolers to fit in it...otherwise go with the lanboy is its 70 bucks and comes with a 350 watt PSU)
ATI Radeon 9600XT 190 - retail (could get the Sapphire bulk version for 165)

If you get the regular lanboy buy 2 extra 80mm fans for the case.
