This is just more hot air and propaganda?

You think this is what left-wing nutjobs want?

Oh, I am scared, you are warning me!

This is just like the leftwingers being warned about Medical Marijuana.

Big deal, you warned somebody.

This means diddly squat!

You've got to be kidding.

That would be like the Captain of the Titanic using a teacup to bail water and saying he deserves credit for his actions.

This is just too funny....and stupid.

Doing nothing is better.

What, pray tell, has this subject/thread have to do with Christians?

I suppose that the illegals hired by these firms are mostly Catholic (Christian), maybe he is referring to them breaking the law by entering the country illegally?

Heh. I think he just means that Christians would be welcoming poor huddled masses with open arms. But it doesn't really matter since Sheffield just wants to rage about something.

Kicking out illegals now is like submerging a sieve under water and trying to remove all the water by poring it outside of the sieve. It is pointless.

If we want to REALLY stop illegal immigration, then there are a few things we could do.

* Create a national ID database with photo that is administered by the government. Force all businesses to verify through said database. Do regular checks on all businesses to ensure compliance (this can decrease over time) and enforce crippling penalties to businesses that don't comply. Same goes for welfare and emergency room care. If you take away all incentives to be in the US, people will stop coming (though, this could be very expensive to administer).

* Secure the border. This is less perfect than the first point, but still somewhat effective. right now, our borders are a joke. This would be very expensive, probably more expensive than the first option and would be an ongoing expense that we couldn't really just stop paying in.

* Make immigration easier. I don't think every illegal wants to be illegal, making immigration easier would at least give us the ability to track many of these current illegal immigrants.

* Profile. It sucks, but yes, most illegals are Mexicans/Latinos.. Sorry this hurts your feelings, but until we get a handle on the situation you are going to lose some of your freedoms because of the stupid actions of others. This could be fairly effective, and would be viewed by many as being as bad as Hilter's holocaust.

I like it.

Anyone want to tell me why Obama doesn't deserve a fist-bump for this?

Well, I have some experience in this. And I mostly looked here because I was hoping for info on what they were going to do with the illegals they caught. Last time I noticed they just let them go and only punished the employer.

I-9 audits?

You know what they were doing under the GWB admin?

Not many "I-9" audits, instead ICE was showing up at job sites. Employees and the employer were herded intop a room and everybody's ID and status was checked. Ilegals and the employer were detained and processed.

Now under Obama we're going with I-9 audits with advance WARNING. How many illegals do you think will be hanging around and show up on that day? I going to go out on a limb here and say "none".

While I approve of discouraging employers' hiring of illegals. The problem is that we give them no way to identify them in the 1st place. The gov has a database where, ostensibly, you can confirm SS#'s, but at the same time warn you against using it to screen for illegals because you may well be sued for violating their rights.

This makes no sense. If you're going to hold the employer accountable, you must empower them so they can follow the law.

I'm begining to wonder if we're seeing some political Machiavallian BS - We'll let the illegals go, hammer the shit out of the poor biz owner, whether by suing them for checking or fining them for hiring. Eventually they'll yield and support full amnesty.

In Arizona businesses already are empowered to use the e verify system and a supreme court decision upheld the state's right to demand they use the system. The result was the state income taxes fell 13% because businesses just starting hiring them under the table. These aren't innocent employers caught in the middle, they're competitive businesses who've been getting away with this crap for decades and now can't compete any other way.

Just like slavery there is just too much money to be made and we've let the problem get out of hand. And, just like slavery, there is no quick and easy solution. Its gonna be an ugly protracted fight that begins with a lot of posturing, builds up to a bloody war, and lingers for decades afterwards.
