Remember the sales for cat 5e cable from compgeeks? Now they have CATEGORY 6 wiring!
$52.95 for a 1000' roll of cat 6 solid copper, non plenum (I think), plus you get 100 RJ45 30u connectors.

Unfortunately the 10% off coupons dont work on this item, but its still a pretty good deal if you ask me.

For those interested in cat 5e compgeeks has some of that as well.
1000' cat 5e cable with 100 30u connectors $36.50:

And if you need a crimper, tester, and connectors for cat5e its only $43.50

Shipping for me in CA was about $15, but YMMV. I remember some of the previous cable deals from compgeeks being expensive to ship for some in some states.

I've used some of the cat5e stuff and so far its worked fine for me. Sure the crimper is a cheap one, but it does the job for the few cables I've made. I also really like the tester. Before when I made a cable, I had to plug it into a laptop to test. Now I can just plug the ends into this tester (one end can separate to test at the end of a cable) and if the green lights all come on the cable is crimped right. Note: as the website says the tester has some labels for some lights in chinese. But it doesn't really matter, they are diagramed and if they are green you are good to go 🙂

It's a good deal but too bad their shipping to FL is $24.

I might have to look around and see if there is a better deal but if there isn't I'll be all over this.

There's a bunch of people selling the same thing from ebay. (you can tell they got it from compgeeks heheh) If you are desperate you might want to take a look there.

why would you want cat 6? cat 5e is good for 1000mbit ethernet and as fas as i know you can't use 10 gigabit over copper. am i missing something here?

No. I'm not even close to desperate.

From having done research on this before... cat 6 is not an official standard yet. Cat 5e is the way to go.

you cant run gigabit over cat5e... its rated for ~350MHz... cat6 is gigabit rated... over short distances, cat5e will handle gigabit, but you are taking the risk of corruption and loss. if you want gigabit, buy cat6. This comes up every time this deal comes up again. Someone should just recycle to old thread.

EDIT: AND Cat6 has been approved... here Is TIA's website ... ratified on july 1, 2002... if you are going to make statements like that, make sure you have your facts straight.

Well - I'm considering CAT6 for my needs since it is a thicker gauge so the long runs will be easier. I'm going to try for a 100' run but I might have 2 wall plates w/ CAT5e adapters in between.

You can do I think up to 300' runs if I'm not mistaken.

HOWEVER, if you use any cat 5 components (like wall plats with cat 5 jacks) you will negate ANY advantages gained in using cat 6 wire. Remember the slowest component of a run limits the speed of the entire run.
