$1000 Camcorder????

I'm looking to purchase a camcorder and want to spend $1000. What should I get?

I have filmed family events in the home and Symphony Concerts with my Sony, but it isn't HD and I am unhappy with the video quality and have been using my Nikon V1 more and more. I sometimes run into problems with the limited video length and since I won't pay for the power zoom lens I am very limited in how I can setup and shoot.

I like the description and price of the JVC GC-PX100 Full HD Everio Camcorder, but do not know how it stacks up against similarly priced competitors.

Any idea, suggestions or opinions?

If your sold on a camcorder I would get a PJ650v from Sony. Its got a nice sensor, hot shoe, projector, and a lot of manual control. But the main thing that sets this bad boy apart from the JVC is Balanced Optical Steady Shot. That alone makes this camera worth it, as it makes for a very stable video even when holding it without a tripod.

For just a few dollars more you can get a Panasonic Lumix GH3. It has a very rugged Magnesium alloy body and takes footage that is extremely close to cinema quality.

Additionally, you will have to edit your video, right? With "camcorders" the video stream is one big blob of interframe compressed video. On the GH3, every frame is intraframe compressed. That means every frame is individually compressed so you can do accurate "on the frame" editing that comes out perfect and not just "close to where you wanted to cut".

Check it out.
