You couldn't document that assertion if your life depended on it. There were no "penalties" threatened, either, other than the feds enforcing the law themselves.

Eric Holder and the DOJ dropping threats against Washington and Colorado only made the front page on every major newspaper in the country just this year. California pot dispensaries continue to publish letters sent to them by Obama's DOJ threatening persecution and arrest for violating federal law, even as they obey state law.

The news also reported on the feds threatening to arrest state police who interfere with them. Not really a penalty, just an open threat. Supremacy clause uber alles!

Oregon MJ law, btw-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_in_Oregon

When was the last time somebody got 20 years for possession in Oregon, anyway?

Pot isn't legal in Oregon. Feel free to drop by and smoke up in front of the Portland cops. The local cops here enforce federal law and are rewarded for doing so.

The only reason legalization failed in Oregon was because of a poorly written ballot measure, same in California. Next time, just copy Colorado's Amendment 64-

http://www.regulatemarijuana.org/s/regulate-marijuana-alcohol-act-2012

Implying the feds won't pull the same stunt they did with Colorado and Washington as with Oregon if that passes.

And I'm pretty sure that Teahadists, in general, don't have the kind of "values" allowing for drug legalization, at all. They are deeply authoritarian on that issue & most others.

The master of strawmen strikes again. Obama has taught you well.

Seriously though, back to the original issue, if the red states are such leeches of federal monies, why not cut them loose? The blue states can keep their money and everybody's happy, amirite? Or maybe you're just an authoritarian who demands obeisance. Oh snap.

The notion that local cops would attempt to interfere with federal authorities is absurd in the first place, other than in Libertopian wet dreams. Oh, and link that news report, while you're at it.

Local cops are authorized to cooperate in the enforcement of federal law only in joint task force operations. Such operations are not aimed at possession, in general.

How dim. The Obama DoJ has set precedence with Colorado & Washington. The notion that they would attempt to treat other states who legalize any differently is absurd.

Although more open to legalization that rank & file repubs, their allies, teahadists lag far behind the rest of the population wrt legalization-

They won't interfere. But that doesn't stop the feds from threatening people, after all, it's their SOP. The feds also threatened with retaliation against state cops who attempt to interfere with the ATF in states that have passed legislation nullifying federal firearm laws, like Missouri and Wyoming.

On another level, the governor of NY threatened to arrest upstate sheriffs who refuse to implement their "SAFE" Act. Same shit, different place.

Local cops are authorized to cooperate in the enforcement of federal law only in joint task force operations. Such operations are not aimed at possession, in general.

Wow, you must know a lot about Oregon drug enforcement from watching TV shows, using such big words. Joint task force operations. LOL. Head over to Gresham and you'll see how the local county cops cooperate with the feds all the time on every aspect of the drug war.

Indeed, Obama set a precedent by ordering his attack dog to threaten Colorado and Washington for 6 months before backing off. My hunch is that the current reprieve is temporary, as the DOJ continues to threaten California pot outlets, and Holder has stated the federal government reserves the "right to persecute" under the Controlled Substances Act.

Although more open to legalization that rank & file repubs, their allies, teahadists lag far behind the rest of the population wrt legalization-

That's right, keep arguing with that strawman, you'll win one of these days. Kudos for linking Reason though, as it is one of my favorite "Libertopian" publications.

Also, what the fuck is a teahadist? Isn't the tea party dead? And if they're pro-drug-war, how are they any different from the Obama or Bush administrations?

Are you so confused you actually trash a ghost of a political movement for having an identical stance on an issue as both mainstream political parties? LOL, so much epic fail.

No such measures have passed in either state, makng your assertion misinformed, at best.

Cooperation is not the same as enforcement of Federal law, no matter how badly you want to claim that it is. Cooperation exists, as you say, because pot is illegal in Oregon.

Indeed, Obama set a precedent by ordering his attack dog to threaten Colorado and Washington for 6 months before backing off. There is no evidence that Obama "ordered" it, at all. Federal agencies operate under guidelines, and in the absence of anything new, regional Federal prosecutors & the DEA merely reiterate existing policy.

That's right, keep arguing with that strawman, you'll win one of these days. Kudos for linking Reason though, as it is one of my favorite "Libertopian" publications.

Oh, wait... Teahadists aren't well behind most of the rest of the Country in attitudes about legalization, even when a source you trust says just that?

Interestingly, significantly more tea party supporters than Republicans favor legalizing marijuana (38 percent to 27 percent). Upwards of 55 percent fo both Democrats and Independents also support legalizing the drug.

So, legalization advocates hold a minority position in a minority movement, and you tout it like the second coming of Christ, Blame Obama! for everything.

The Missouri and Wyoming measures both passed the state houses, the threats started immediately afterwards.

Yes, and the local cops are rewarded by the feds for their obeisance. Which ties in to the original point, which you've completely deviated from, because you can't deny the federal government is a spoils racket.

There is no evidence that Obama "ordered" it, at all. Federal agencies operate under guidelines, and in the absence of anything new, regional Federal prosecutors & the DEA merely reiterate existing policy.

Most transparent administration ever FTW! Leaders are responsible for the actions of their cronies, even if they are operating autonomously.

Sorry but the only person who even brings up the tea party or "teahadists" is you, nobody else rants or cares about them except you. Your irrelevant haranguing would have been amusing but it's long past stale.

So, legalization advocates hold a minority position in a minority movement, and you tout it like the second coming of Christ, Blame Obama! for everything.

The difference is that Obama campaigned on drawing back on the drug war, but as president he expanded it even more so than Bush did. At least the Republikkkans aren't so hypocritical.

Your continual slamming of the tea party's supposed pro-drug-war position even as your apparent political hero assumes the exact same position is truly hilarious. Or for calling them "authoritarians". Um, and Obama isn't? LOL.

Time for GTA, have fun tilting at windmills.

The Missouri law passed and went to the Gov, who vetoed it. It then went for override and missed by 1 vote. The house is planning to bring it back up in 2014.

This is a building trend of states rejecting federal interference on a broad range of topics :

http://www.startribune.com/politics/223306671.html

"The Missouri gun legislation was one of the boldest examples yet of what has become a nationwide movement among states to nullify federal laws with which local officials disagree. A recent analysis by The Associated Press found that about four-fifths of the states now have enacted laws that directly reject or conflict with federal laws on marijuana use, gun control, health insurance requirements and identification standards for driver's licenses."
