I'm thinking of jumping onto the 21st century and get smartphone with a data plan ... wanna see what all the fuse is about.

My friend is going to the darkside and getting an iphone and he's selling his SERO plan for $100. Is this a good a idea? I checked ebay and it seems to go for more than $100 and I checked w/ Sprint supposedly I have good coverage in my area.

Any caveats? The only other pain in the butt thing is that I gotta get a new sprint phone and I was hoping I can wait till 10/1 to see if I can get an android phone.

Any deals w/ starting a new Sprint acct. and taking over someone's SERO plan?

thanks in adv guys!

If you are going to do it, do it soon. Some threads indicate that CSR's are starting to give a lot of resistance to transferring SERO accounts. It probably has to do with the rumored upgradeability of the accounts.

This. Dont wait until 10/1. Do it ASAP.

And yes, its a good deal if you can get the TOS to go through.

I dumped my SERO plan in April for the wonderful world of smartphone and nevr looked back.
Its great to have a multimedia device in the palm of your hand instead of old phone stucked to the sero plan.
I haven't once thought about how much I missed paying only $36 a month.

I have a touch pro 2 on SERO, so you do have smartphones available on SERO. However, I have 3 SERO plans on my account and plan to swap to just a family plan with my corp discount so I can add a samsung epic or EVO.

Sometimes a fam plan makes sense; however, 10/1 you will be able to get ANY sprint phone on SERO. With 3 users and a corp discount, it probably makes sense to go to a fam plan though.

I had a touch pro on the SERO plan which has the same internals as the TP2.(diffrence is the bigger screen).
Too slow for me.

Only if Sprint ever allow the EVO or EPIC on the sero plan +$20 will it be worth it.
I believe it when I see it.

SERO + Android = extra +$10 on top of 30
SERO + Android + 4G phone = extra +$20 on top of 30

(at least thats the current rumor)

If they don't charge a 4G tax just because the phone has, regardless of whether it's used or not, like they do on ED plans a lot of people are going to be pissed.

Sprint STore would not let me transfer my SERO plan to anybody.

Well, a Sprint store may not do it. It should to be done through account services. Theres a few ways to do it. The easiest is to confrence call *2 and your friend/gf/wife/sister/brother/whoever. With all 3 on the line Sprint will take the 3rd party's number (assuming they already have a Sprint account), or if the 3rd party does NOT have a Sprint account they will need to go through credit check etc and set one up. But account services should be able to do this for you.

This also assumes you have a true SERO account, and not a hybrid F&F or some such. You will know if its set up as SERO if when you call *2 you get employee services (SERO account) or regular customer service.

And remember: You cant TOL and take your number with you. The new 3rd party gets your number.

YUP, this is the reason why I let my SERO plan go.
I was going to give my sero plan away to someone but I can't port my number away.
As soon as you port your number, your sero account is disconnected.

still on sero 500... its a tossup though, because i have a treo pro and it does what i need it to do. a newer phone would be a lot more fun, but im not sure if the $300+ cost without a discount would justify. i could easily drop my $7 phone insurance to equalize the extra $10 it would also add on, but then i have a really expensive phone without insurance...

so its nice that we can finally use new phones, but at least for me its not really worth it anyway. as long as i can get my laptop online and still use bing mobile, there isnt much else i need from my phone besides phone calls.

i wouldnt mind a droid x for the hd video capability though. new law says you can jailbreak and use any phone on any carrier too, so its tempting.

i let mine go - use of phone on sero: 30 minutes a month (me) - wife (5-10 minutes).

now paying thru the arse for iphones:

quote "most useful gift evar!" - wife

usage: 40 hours+ (facetime, etc) me. wife alot (maybe more).

main problem with sprint was the fact the phone choices were limited and CDMA is not used in europe.

iphone 4 consolidates everything into one device - gps, flip, phone, etc - all gone - one device that is all. awesome.

so that $69 (after taxes) for 2 sero phones for me and wife now is up to $112.68 a month but you know what - i use the carp out of my phone, love it. it's a portable unix boxen. Wife loves it. uses it all the time.

So $50 a month? Guess what i just cut my directv and went to netflix/hulu and at the end of the day life is good ;)

a jailbroken iphone is quite a nice device (far more so than a non-jailbroken one).

Thats the great thing about multiple carriers and multiple phone choices! Sometimes price isnt the highest consideration. Glad the iPhone is working for you two! I personally hate the iPhone, but thats what choice is all about :)

And I just got back from SE Asia with my Sprint TP2...worked like a charm ;)

Glad youre happy
